Recently signed up for my first photography class. Come the last week of October I will be down in Williamsburg, Kentucky getting learnt how to be a photojournalist. Should be a good time, seems most of the instructors have picked up a Pulitzer at one point or another.
My background is in history and political science, the images I've come across studying that have influenced my photography more than anything else I suspect. Looking forward to learning how the newsies do what they do, particularly in regards to processes and the editorial aspects.
Over the past few years I've played newsie plenty, but have never really felt like I've gotten past the 'fake it til you make it' phase. Have always had major qualms about this, the pretense of objectivity and the way they 'cover' events have never set well with me, so I'm really looking forward to discussing this with some folks who've been in even livelier situations than me.
Have no interest in being a photojournalist per se, it's a muckraker's life for me. There's no guide for that though, so learning to be a better photojournalist will have to do stand in for improving my muckraking skills. Pretty sure the two go hand in hand.
was kind enough to help me out with tuition for the class but it's looking like a power down of some HP will be required to cover lodging for the week. Do not be alarmed, ain't going anywhere. Plus it will be a good way to introduce my classmates to Hive.
That's probably enough for now, will try to update while I'm there but it looks like they intend to keep us busy. Anybody done photojournalism in the past? Anyone got questions they want me to ask in class?
