Offseason Reset = CHAOS
Axie's offseason started a few days ago which means every players' MMR reset back to 1200.
When you put all the absolute top pros, and the most n00bish beginners, all into the exact same MMR... hell breaks loose. The matchups are so random, you have no idea what to expect. Good luck "building against the meta" in a situation like this...
Anyway, I wasn't going to build against anything... I gave all my best Axies to my first three scholars in my personal group XD so I have pretty limited options in my personal collection.
No regrets btw -- shout out the flux scholars, absolutely crushing it!
You can see some match review from my scholar group in yesterday's post btw if you want.
This is my weird scuffed team that I've been rolling with for the end of s19 and start of offseason.
Proving It Isn't Luck
There is a lot of talk about how much RNG is in axie. Critical hits, rock-paper-scissors matchups, even just good vs bad draws and getting screwed by the cards right in the middle of the match.
For me, I don't assume anything. Maybe it is luck, maybe skill...
For me personally, piloting my "FLUX BIRD" goda anemone team is a source of confidence and strength.
By repeatedly achieving high ranks with this "budget build" I am able to prove to myself it isn't luck. Technically it could still be luck -- but, with each iteration, it looks more like skill.
Besides, when Indes won Season 19 of Axie, that pretty much ended the luck conversation. One of the greatest players wins the most competitive season ever against millions of competitors? Doesn't sound like luck to me.
Trusting your team
Even I doubt the team sometimes. I am literally the only player running this build out of millions of players. As far as I can find, there is nobody else running the twin tail anemone along with a razor bite bird. It is considered probably a "bad" build by many players...
...but almost all of those players are lower rank than me again. I went obsessed mode yesterday and grinded 11 hours to re-establish my ranks. This isn't usually my style, but, Axie is bringing out my competitive spirit.
Top 5k again...
The thing is, this means that being in the top 10k players is no longer a "goal" but more of an expectation. Now I know I am capable of this, which means to push myself, I have to aim higher.
I try not to talk about accomplishments before I do them -- makes them less likely to happen, the ego is a dangerous thing -- but I have to admit that the goal now is top 1k with this team. It seems so doable.
Honestly, top 100 could be possible.
One step at a time.
