You may wonder why I picked a strange title. Why would you want a friend from the trash? But I met my best friend while I went to throw my trash. During my freshman year in school, I lived outside the school campus and I could not hang out with anybody from my level.
One day, after completing my admission biometrics, I saw a guy coming out from the same office. He walked up to me and asked my department. I told him and he said he was also in the same department. I asked his level and discovered that he was also a freshman. So I was like cool, and then we went our separate ways. But I forgot to ask his name.
In the evening of the same day, I was going to dump my trash in the dumpster, but the dumpster was a good distance from my house. I don't know why, but the thought of throwing huge trash in the dumpster by the roadside embarrassed me. As I stood in front of my lodge thinking about how I was going to embarrass myself, the same guy I met at the biometrics walked up to me and tapped me.
'Hey, what's good?" I asked.
"What are you doing with that huge trash?" He asked.
"I want to throw it in the dumpster by the road, but I'm embarrassed," I replied.
He did not reply to me. He just collected the trash from me and started dragging it down to the town road. I stood in shock for a few seconds before trailing behind him. People around were looking at him but he did not care. He dragged my trash to the dumpster and threw it.
"How are you able to do that without thinking about what people would say," I asked as we were returning.
"If you keep listening to what people say, you will keep limiting yourself." That statement was deep. So, I asked him his name. He said his name was Alex.
He followed me to my house and he got to meet my elder sister and it has been so much growth and progress from there.
Alex is very free-spirited. Like I used to tell him, he is the only loud guy I can tolerate, because he is very funny.
Throughout my stay at the university, Alex played the part of my protector. Although I had other friends that I could call my small squad, Alex was my best friend.
One day, a guy walked up to me in broad daylight and took my money. He told me that he would beat me if I did not cooperate. Alex was walking behind me when the guy took my money so as the guy walked away, Alex ran up to him and punched his face. The moral of the story is that I got my money back.
After long years of studying together, we graduated without issues. We have had so many adventures, disappointment, wins, and heartbreaks, but I knew in my heart that Alex was a friend I wanted in my circle no matter what. You are one good thing studying at the university gave me. You are a good guy and your mum would be so proud of you. We are all going to succeed, the time is near. And the squad would go for holidays in Dubai as we talked about. Keep your head up.
