Hello hivers
holidays to you allπ²βπ²πβοΈ. This is my first post in this community about popular christmas flowers in Norway.
Norwegian name julestjerne english name is poinsettia and latin name Euphorbia pulcherrima it grows into bushes in the wild in tropical regions but here in norway it is sold in small pots around 50-60 cm. The colors are normally flaming red and green. The plants require abundant light during the day for the brightest color. in cold winter their bright christmas colors warm the atmosphere making them very popular.
the official Norwegian name is amaryllis but it is more commonly called a svibel. English name amaryllis Latin name Hippeastrum hybrids and cultivated with large ornamental flowers. it is sold as a bulb before advent and reaches full bloom by christmas. the local flower shop owner said they are imported but she does not know where from. anyway people like them very much and display them with advent candles on the table. this photo was taken at a friend's house.
Ildtop is the norwegian name for this flower. English name flaming katy. latin name Kalanchoe blossfeldiana. hybrids usually have big flowers with many petals. i buy them in winter because it tolerates cold, does not need much water and sometimes i use them to offer to my god during rituals this is a bushy, evergreen and perennial succulent which fits nicely in our window. the plant has green, shiny and textured glossy foliage which stays green all year round.
Succulents are plants with parts that are thick and fleshy, like aloe vera. they grow outdoors in summer so we have some in our garden but in cold winter it dies off and comes back in spring. but this one in the shop with silver dye is popular for christmas decorations.
julecactus is the norwegian name for the ones that flower around Christmas. the light pink one i have on the table was a gift though it's also available in red, white, and purple.
Julerose is the norwegian name of these flower, in english it's known as christmas rose or black hellebore. the latin name is Helleborus niger, it is an evergreen perennial flowering plant in the buttercup family, the shop owner said the rose name is nothing to do with roses. it is very popular in christmas time even though it is poisonous.
Thank you very much π.
