Never regret what once made you smile.
Unknown
I came across this short quote late this evening and for some reason I loved it. Some people say life is like a school where we meet different people, with some we learn a lesson, with some we part ways leaving behind memories, while a few, we stick to for a very long time. We all at one time sincerely smiled with the categories of people mentioned above, they were part of us and one of the reasons why we were happy at a particular time. Things changed, the laughter turned to hatred for some and at a point we started to feel regret for having known them. Before now, I considered that to be the right thing to do- feel regretful to have ever met them, but this quote changed my perspective about it.
I feel everyone we have come across was part of the lesson to learn in the school of life. One of which is; everyone cannot be the same and to learn to appreciate true friends. Therefore, never regret meeting the wrong people, it was through them you came to realize who was good. One thing we may never forget in life is the memories of time we had with friends and families. The laughter, the pain, the struggles, and the victories, they all count, they make the latter more pleasant. If they ever made us smile at a point, I believe there shouldn't be regrets.
We can absorb in the moment and be grateful they all made you happy at a point. Regrets only birth hatred, hatred birth malice, and malice birth discord, until there's a separation forever. I have made a lot of friends while I was growing up, I have lost contact with some of the friends I made, while I'm still together with a few of them. The time spent was memorable, sometimes I wish I could bring back the old days. However, offenses were inevitable, we did offend one another, but I think what should matter most is the fact that they once made us smile. We may cease to communicate, but never regret the time you spent with who/what made you smile.
