Today for the HiveBloPoMo we talk about volunteering!
Too bad I'm two days early!
This weekend will be entirely dedicated to volunteering as the Avis regional assembly will be held in Crotone.
However, I will talk about it in a dedicated post, but today something must still be written on the subject!
To celebrate this day I will talk about my beloved association.
You must know that I have always been dedicated to volunteering and, in general, to the social world being, among other things, an educational assistant; actually that was my first job.
For me the service (this is the term with which we Scouts define volunteering) unfolds in two ways, or rather it was in the past when I was doing associative service as an educator at AGESCI and extra-associative service in a series of other realities including, in addition to Avis, Special Olympics for example.
Today I continue on my journey as a blood donor and, at the same time, I participate in the life of the association, obviously covering the role of manager, all free of charge.
Unfortunately I had to set aside my other activities due to time constraints but, in the future, it is said that I won't take them up again and in any case, when a hand is needed on an impromptu basis, I never back down.
But let's go back to Avis on which I would like to concentrate now.
I began my donor service at the tender age of 18; I also carried out my national civil service at Avis and, for a few years, I was lucky enough to work as a handyman secretary; by far that was the job that I loved the most and that I miss.
I have also held various positions on a voluntary basis; it all started when I became coordinator of the youth group in my city, that was a path that led me to hold the position of member of the National Youth Executive.
The four years in which I held national office were some of the most beautiful and formative I have ever experienced; I got to know many people and some of them are still like sisters and brothers to me today; I traveled far and wide across Italy and there is no city that I haven't touched, practically every weekend (Friday evening to be exact) we left for a conference, for representation, for a meeting, In short, we didn't have a moment's respite but everything was really fantastic.
I confess that in certain moments the effort made itself felt but it was really worth it!
After the national experience I continued to play the managerial role in my city, making available all the knowledge acquired and the experiences gained.
This is the third mandate in which I am part of the municipal council of my reference Avis; for the first term, I held the role of youth contact person and at the same time I was the coordinator of our city council; during the second term I held the position of deputy vice president, I was the youngest to hold this position in my city; today I am still on the council and I still deal with young people, for whom I am a contact person and in whom I believe a lot, the future is in their hands but above all the present is.
Managerial roles in Avis are very important because they allow the association to go ahead by organizing the life of the association obviously, being a voluntary and unpaid position, there are few who put themselves on the line and take on certain responsibilities.
It's different for me, yes I have responsibilities but it's something I love because Avis is my home and part of my family is part of it so I don't see it as a "takeover" or a sacrifice but is a real pleasure; among other things, Reny also often accompanies me when we are around for some meeting or conference and, even if she cannot donate, she participates in the activities with joy and enthusiasm.
Then there is the most important part, that of the donation, to date I have made 102 but, almost certainly, Saturday morning they will become 103 heh heh!
For me they are always few, I will begin to be satisfied when I have reached at least 200.
Waking up early in the morning is, as we Avisini say, "going to put your arm" is a natural thing, it's an integral part of my life and I couldn't give it up; making a gesture that costs us 5 minutes of time but can save a life is something everyone should do and, as I see it, it's a great way to invest your time.
In Avis I grew up and became a man; I have received many teachings from special people, some unfortunately are no longer here today but I always carry them in my heart and, every time I have to make a decision, before doing something I always ask myself: "how would they have behaved?".
They have been true masters of life and there are moments in which I really miss them.
Enzo, Professor Mimmo, Tanino, Paolo, Michelone I will always love you.
I believe that before saying goodbye, we should thank all the volunteers who, in Italy and around the world, spend themselves for each other whether they do it by donating blood or with any other concrete action that gives good; these people are real angels on earth, thank you!

Peccato sono in anticipo di due giorni!
Questo fine settimana sarà interamente dedicata al volontariato visto che si terrà a Crotone l'assemblea regionale Avis.
Ne parlerò però in un post dedicato, però oggi va comunque scritto qualcosa sull'argomento!
Per celebrare questa giornata parlerò proprio della mia amata associazione.
Devi sapere che io sono sempre stato dedito al volontariato e, in generale, al mondo del sociale essendo, tra le altre cose, un assistente educativo; in realtà quello è stato proprio il mio primo lavoro.
Per me il servizio (questo è il termine con il quale noi scout definiamo il volontariato) si dipana seguendo due vie, o meglio così era in passato quando facevo servizio associativo come educatore presso L'AGESCI e servizio extra-associativo in una serie di altre realtà tra le quali, oltre l'Avis, Special Olympics ad esempio.
Oggi proseguo nel mio cammino di donatore di sangue e, contemporaneamente, partecipo alla vita associativa ricoprendo il ruolo di dirigente ovviamente tutto a titolo gratuito.
Purtroppo ho dovuto accantonare le mie altre attività per limiti di tempo ma, in futuro, non è detto che non le riprenda e comunque, quando in maniera estemporanea c'è bisogno di una mano, non mi tiro mai indietro.
Torniamo però all'Avis sulla quale mi vorrei concentrare adesso.
Ho iniziato il mio servizio come donatore alla tenera età di 18 anni; in Avis ho anche svolto il servizio civile nazionale e, per qualche anno, ho avuto la fortuna di lavorare come segretario tuttofare; in assoluto quello è stato il lavoro che più ho amato e che mi manca.
Ho anche ricoperto varie cariche a titolo volontario; tutto è partito quando sono diventato coordinatore del gruppo giovani della mia città , quello è stato un percorso che mi ha portato fino a ricoprire la carica di componente dell'Esecutivo Giovani Nazionale.
I quattro anni in cui ho ricoperto l'incarico nazionale sono stati tra i più belli e formativi che abbia vissuto; ho avuto modo di conoscere tante persone e, alcune di esse, per me sono ancora oggi come delle sorelle e dei fratelli; ho girato l'Italia in lungo e in largo e non c'è città che non abbia toccato, praticamente tutti i fine settimana (i venerdì sera per l'esattezza) si partiva per un convegno, per fare della rappresentanza, per una riunione , insomma non abbiamo avuto un attimo di tregua però è stato tutto davvero fantastico.
Ti confesso che in certi momenti la fatica si è fatta sentire ma ne è valsa davvero la pena!
Terminata l'esperienza nazionale ho continuato a svolgere il ruolo dirigenziale nella mia città , mettendo a disposizione tutte le conoscenze acquisite e le esperienze fatte.
Questo è il terzo mandato in cui faccio parte del consiglio comunale della mia Avis di riferimento; ho ricoperto per il primo mandato il ruolo di referente giovani e contemporaneamente sono stato coordinatore della nostra consulta cittadina; durante il secondo mandato ho ricoperto il ruolo di vicepresidente vicario, sono stato il più giovane a ricoprire questa carica nella mia città ; oggi sono ancora in consiglio e mi occupo ancora di giovani, dei quali sono referente e nei quali credo molto, il futuro è nelle loro mani ma soprattutto lo è il presente.
I ruoli dirigenziali in Avis sono molto importanti perché permettono all'associazione di andare avanti organizzando la vita associativa ovviamente, essendo una carica volontaria e non retribuita, sono in pochi che si mettono in gioco e si accollano determinate responsabilità .
Per me è diverso, si ho delle responsabilità ma è qualcosa che amo perché l'Avis è la mia casa e all’interno di essa c'è parte della mia famiglia quindi non lo vedo ne come un "accollo" ne come un sacrificio ma è un vero piacere; anche Reny tra l'altro spesso mi accompagna quando siamo un giro per qualche riunione o convegno e, anche se non può donare, partecipa alle attività con gioia ed entusiasmo.
C'è poi la parte più importante, quella della donazione, ad oggi ne ho fatte ben 102 ma, quasi sicuramente, sabato mattina diverranno 103 eh eh!
Per me sono sempre poche, comincerò ad essere soddisfatto quando sarò arrivato almeno a 200.
Svegliarmi presto la mattina è, come diciamo noi avisini, "andare a mettere il braccio" è una cosa naturale, è parte integrante della mia vita e non potrei rinunciarci; compiere un gesto che ci costa 5 minuti di tempo ma che può salvare una vita è qualcosa che tutti dovrebbero fare e, per come la vedo io, è un ottimo modo per investire il proprio tempo.
In Avis sono cresciuto e sono diventato uomo; ho ricevuto tanti insegnamenti da persone speciali, alcune purtroppo oggi non ci sono più ma le porto sempre nel mio cuore e, ogni volta che devo prendere una decisione, prima di fare qualcosa mi chiedo sempre: "loro come si sarebbero comportati?".
Sono stati veri e propri maestri di vita e ci sono dei momenti in cui mi mancano davvero tanto.
Enzo, Professore Mimmo, Tanino, Paolo, Michelone vi vorrò sempre bene.
Credo che prima di salutarci sia doveroso un ringraziamento a tutti i volontari che, in Italia e nel Mondo, si spendono per l'altro sia che lo facciano donando il sangue o con qualsiasi altra azione concreta che regala del bene; queste persone sono veri e propri angeli in terra, grazie!
