Come di consueto oggi vi porto dentro una nuova Anteprima di un articolo che fra qualche giorno o settimana vedrete Nella Mente di un SerialFiller, il mio blog interamente incentrato sul mondo delle serie tv e di cui, da qualche mese, ho deciso di regalarvi costantemente, in anticipo su quello che pubblicherò, gran parte dei post che vedrete su www.serialfiller.org.

L'ultima stagione di Gomorra, come avrete notato dalle precedenti recensioni, non è stata, a mio avviso, la migliore.
Troppo forte è stato l'impatto di quello che reputo un errore, una forzatura nello script che ha finito per indirizzare la serie verso una direzione che poco aveva a che fare con la natura stessa di Gomorra che aveva sempre ragionato in termini di destino non gestibile, non manovrabile, non discutibile e che invece aveva iniziato questa ultima stagione con un reintegro forzatissimo e poco digeribile.
A molti fan questa "sorpresa" è piaciuta, troppo festosi per comprendere che quello che era accaduto avrebbe cambiato per sempre la percezione che avremmo avuto dello show, specialmente a livello critico.
Se una cosa Gomorra l'aveva sempre dimostrata era la sua graniticità.
Pochissimi errori di sceneggiatura, personaggi sviluppati sempre in maniera accorta, storyline nate sempre per avere un peso specifico importante all'interno dell'economia della serie.
Partire con una sbavatura cosi ingombrante aveva lasciato molte perplessità e destato non poche preoccupazioni.
Per nostra fortuna Gomorra non è nata ieri e, come Roma, non è stata costruita in un giorno.
E cosi quelle fondamenta hanno consentito allo show di riprendersi i suoi spazi lungo il cammino e costruire un finale che fosse degno di quel nome cosi riconoscibile e amato in tutto il mondo.
Nonostante degli intoppi, dunque, alla fine tutto ha funzionato bene, non alla grande, non perfettamente, ma comunque molto bene, riuscendo a rendere Gomorra la Gomorra che amavamo e quel rapporto Ciro/Genny quel rapporto complesso, sfumato, sanguigno che avevamo (con copione ribaltato) ampiamente metabolizzato e apprezzato nelle prime stagioni.

Il finale, in senso strettissimo, ha ricordato moltissimo The Wire, serie che ritorna sempre a fare capolino quando si parla di criminalità associata ad un'analisi quasi sempre spietata della società.
Questo accostamento torna a galla in maniera inevitabile.
Quale fu il messaggio potentissimo del finale della serie HBO? Tutto cambia, purchè non cambi nulla. Ogni riferimento ad Il Gattopardo è assolutamente voluto.
L'epopea di Jimmy McNulty, allora, si concluse in modo amaro con quel sorriso pensoso dell'agente che, mentre le immagini della città e dei personaggi a noi noti scorrevano, sembrava volerci dire che nonostante tutto quel sangue, quelle indagini, quelle perdite e quei cambiamenti al potere criminale e politico, le cose, dopo molti anni dall'inizio, stavano andando ancora allo stesso modo.
Erano cambiati gli interpreti. La droga aveva un nome nuovo. Il volto della politica era più rassicurante. Ai vertici c'erano sorrisi di plastica che sembravano offrire maggiori garanzie. Tutto sembrava nuovo ma nulla era cambiato. Ancora tanta droga in giro, ancora tanti ragazzi senza futuro, ancora mille indagini da svolgere, ancora tanto sangue nelle strade.
Il finale di Gomorra è stato altrettanto anticlimatico ed altrettanto potente nel messaggio.
Ciro e Genny cadono per mano di un soggetto ignoto.
Assistiamo alla loro sconfitta definitiva, quasi romantica, quasi poetica ma non sappiamo chi sia il loro carnefice.
Un buco di sceneggiatura? Un errore imperdonabile?
Niente affatto.

Whatever your reaction was to the epilogue of the most famous criminal saga in Italy, perhaps in Europe, probably in the globe, you will not have been indifferent to what aired last December on Sky, registering absolute records for the most famous pay TV in the peninsula, which, thanks to the epic of Genny and Cyrus, has managed to emancipate itself from the world of soccer, sports, easy sitcoms and light series, entering, in fact, the Olympus of domestic production houses and not only.
Sollima had started it all, Marco D'Amore, Claudio Cupellini and the many authors(and writers) who have followed over the years, have continued that painstaking work that the series has carried on about the Camorra and all that it contaminates, bends, corrupts and corrupts in the Vesuvian towns, and not, victims of an almost total (and totalizing) absence of the State and the men that the State represents.
The finale, whether we liked it or not, returned to us a peremptory and inexorable message that should only be grasped in order to put, then, to rest any other discourse on the supposed responsibility of series like this with respect to the training and civic education of young and old.

The last season of Gomorrah, as you may have noticed from previous reviews, was not, in my opinion, the best.
Too strong was the impact of what I consider to be a mistake, a forcing in the script that ended up steering the series in a direction that had little to do with the very nature of Gomorrah, which had always reasoned in terms of an unmanageable, unmaneuverable, non-debatable destiny and instead began this last season with a forced and barely digestible reinstatement.
Many fans liked this "surprise," too festive to realize that what had happened would forever change our perception of the show, especially on a critical level.
If one thing Gomorrah had always demonstrated it was its graniticity.
Very few script errors, characters always shrewdly developed, storylines always born to have an important specific weight within the economy of the series.
Starting with such a cumbersome smear had left many perplexed and raised not a few concerns.
Fortunately for us, Gomorrah was not born yesterday and, like Rome, was not built in a day.
And so that foundation allowed the show to take back its spaces along the way and build an ending that was worthy of that name so recognizable and beloved around the world.
Despite hiccups, then, in the end everything worked well, not great, not perfectly, but very well nonetheless, managing to make Gomorrah the Gomorrah we loved and that Ciro/Genny relationship the complex, nuanced, sanguine relationship we had (with flipped script) largely metabolized and appreciated in the first seasons.

The finale, in a very narrow sense, reminded us very much of The Wire, a series that always comes back to the fore when talking about crime associated with an almost always ruthless analysis of society.
This juxtaposition resurfaces inescapably.
What was the most powerful message of the HBO series finale? Everything changes, as long as nothing changes. Any reference to The Leopard is absolutely intended.
The epic of Jimmy McNulty, then, ended bitterly with that thoughtful smile of the agent who, as images of the city and the characters we knew scrolled by, seemed to want to tell us that despite all that blood, those investigations, those losses and changes to criminal and political power, things, many years after the beginning, were still going the same way.
The performers had changed. Drugs had a new name. The face of politics was more reassuring. There were plastic smiles at the top that seemed to offer more guarantees. Everything looked new but nothing had changed. Still so many drugs on the streets, still so many kids with no future, still a thousand investigations to go, still so much blood in the streets.
The ending of Gomorrah was just as anticlimactic and just as powerful in its message.
Cyrus and Genny fall at the hands of an unknown subject.
We witness their ultimate defeat, almost romantic, almost poetic but we do not know who their executioner is.
A hole in the script? An unforgivable mistake?
Not at all.

On the contrary, the authors wanted to tell us exactly what The Wire told us 14 years ago but this time with a criminal context prevailing over the social context. Genny and Cyrus killed a lot, killed dreams, hopes especially of themselves but physically killed enemies and sometimes even consaguignei. They razed everything to the ground. They cleaned up. They won.
Yet they died. We do not know because of whom but we do know that today, 5 seasons later, Secondigliano is in chaos again. There will be more bloodshed. The police will still be absent. There will be a new Don Pietro, a new Genny, a new Ciro. The wheel will turn again as it always has, even without those who seemed to be immortal or unbeatable.
Very powerful message that we cannot escape and can only applaud and share, even if the ending should have disappointed us.
Gomorrah made the history of Italian TV.
I will never tire of repeating that it represents our serial watershed. It has been for us what Avatar was for 3D cinema.
The final season, flawed from every point of view, reminded us once again that without Gomorrah we are going nowhere.
And now come cà, come and take or forgive Gomorra mia!
