Come di consueto oggi vi porto dentro una nuova Anteprima di un articolo che fra qualche giorno o settimana vedrete Nella Mente di un SerialFiller, il mio blog interamente incentrato sul mondo delle serie tv e di cui, da qualche mese, ho deciso di regalarvi costantemente, in anticipo su quello che pubblicherò, gran parte dei post che vedrete su www.serialfiller.org.

E invece è accaduto tutto il contrario di quello che mi aspettavo.
Il cast si è rivelato in pessima forma.
La storia ha perso mordente.
Il mistero si è trasformato in una bolla.
Quel buco che risucchiava tutto e tutti dentro qualcosa di imperscrutabile è divenuto un buco enorme ma per la sceneggiatura.
I tormenti che affliggevano i personaggi sono divenuti un fardello per il loro sviluppo.
Le atmosfere plumbee sono divenute funeste più che foriere di grandi presagi e di grandi disvelamenti.
Abbiamo assistito a inutili arrovellamenti fra le varie storyline e risoluzioni posticce e senza senso.
La resa visiva è stata pessima, le scelte registiche improbabili.
Basti pensare all'ultimo inseguimento, quello che determinerà la fine della prima stagione.
Un inseguimento che nemmeno Die Hard 40 anni fa avrebbe avuto il coraggio di mettere in campo.
Pallottole che volavano in maniera insensata.
2 pistoleri contro uno ma con la mira di un uomo bendato. L'uomo in minoranza che diventa il più abile cecchino proprio quando la visuale manca e le auto corrono veloci.
Un disastro.

Il vero disastro, però, è stato lo sviluppo di storie e personaggi, sballottati a destra e a manca senza mai avere il passo deciso che una scrittura sicura imporrebbe.
Autumn fa cose a caso e viene proiettata avanti ed indietro nel tempo incerto della serie quasi a volerla far sembrare la costante di un universo caotico nel quale resterà poi solo il caos.
Nessuna vera linea da seguire e nessun vero mistero da scoprire. Nessuno, ma davvero nessuno riesce a compiere il proprio destino.
Il tavolo ribaltato nel finale è l'emblema di uno show che aveva apparecchiato bene la propria tavola, con leccornie di tutti i tipi ed invitati d'eccezione ma che alla fine ha scoperto di non avere nulla da offrire.
Ne una buona regia. Ne una buona recitazione. Ne una buona trama. Ne un buon mistero.
Nulla.
Anzi.
La serie ha annoiato tantissimo ed ha mostrato difetti in ciascuna di queste proprietà essenziali che dovrebbero costituire l'ossatura di un buono show.
Outer Range è stata, in definitiva, la mia cocente delusione quest'anno, nonchè la mia più incredibile cantonata.
Perdonatami se vi ho illuso tanto quanto mi ero illuso io.

As usual, today I am bringing you inside a new Preview of an article that in a few days or weeks you will see In the Mind of a SerialFiller, my blog entirely focused on the world of TV series and of which, for the past few months, I have decided to constantly give you, in advance of what I will publish, most of the posts you will see at www.serialfiller.org.

Do you ever go off the rails?

Do you ever get disappointed in an almost scalding way?

Did you really think Josh Brolin could solve any problem?

Outer Range represents perhaps the biggest misstep taken in serial 2022 by yours truly.
In the first impression post regarding the pilot, I ended up, even, wondering if this could be "the nex big thing," such were the important premises I had, who knows how, discerned in the pilot of the Amazon Prime Video series.
For everyone's benefit, however, here are the famous first impressions.
I was under the illusion that I was in for a disruptive series.
The cast contained a first-rate name like Josh Brolin's.
The story seemed to have all the elements to break through.
The mystery presented at the beginning had all the requirements to become a new obsession.
Instead.

Instead, the opposite of what I expected happened.
The cast turned out to be in bad shape.
The story lost bite.
The mystery turned into a bubble.
That hole that sucked everything and everyone into something inscrutable became a huge hole but for the script.
The torments that plagued the characters became a burden for their development.
The leaden atmospheres became funereal rather than harbingers of great portents and unravelings.
We witnessed unnecessary entanglements between the various storylines and posturing and meaningless resolutions.
The visuals were bad, the directorial choices improbable.
Just think of the last chase, the one that will determine the end of the first season.
A chase that not even Die Hard 40 years ago would have had the courage to field.
Bullets flying senselessly.
2 gunmen against one but with the aim of a blindfolded man. The outnumbered man who becomes the most skilled sniper just when the sight misses and the cars run fast.
Disaster.

The real disaster, however, has been the development of stories and characters, tossed around left and right without ever having the firm pace that confident writing would dictate.
Autumn does random things and is thrown back and forth in the uncertain time of the series almost as if to make her seem like the constant of a chaotic universe in which only chaos will then remain.
No real line to follow and no real mystery to uncover. No one, but really no one can fulfill their destiny.
The table overturned in the finale is emblematic of a show that had set its table well, with delicacies of all kinds and exceptional guests, but found in the end that it had nothing to offer.
Neither good direction. Nor good acting. Nor a good plot. Nor a good mystery.
Nothing.
On the contrary.
The series bored so much and showed flaws in each of these essential properties that should form the backbone of a good show.
Outer Range was ultimately my bitter disappointment this year, as well as my most incredible blunder.
Forgive me if I have deluded you as much as I had deluded myself.
