Come di consueto oggi vi porto dentro una nuova Anteprima di un articolo che fra qualche giorno o settimana vedrete Nella Mente di un SerialFiller, il mio blog interamente incentrato sul mondo delle serie tv e di cui, da qualche mese, ho deciso di regalarvi costantemente, in anticipo su quello che pubblicherò, gran parte dei post che vedrete su www.serialfiller.org.

Torniamo da HBO oggi e lo facciamo con un cast stellare e con la miniserie Landscapers.

Miniserie da soli 4 episodi, Landscapers è uscita a fine 2021 ed ha potuto contare su un'attrice premio Oscar, Emmy, Golden Globe (manca il telegatto ma pazienza), come Olivia Colman (Broadchurch, Fleabag e soprattutto The Crown) e su un eccellente attore, sebbene molto meno celebrato e celebre, come David Thewlis.

Come al solito, dopo l'incipit iniziale mi capita di partire con altre premesse. E' un vizio, un vezzo che, purtroppo o per fortuna, fa parte del mio modo di articolare il pensiero.
Qui vi dico che Landscapers non mi ha fatto impazzire (non ve lo aspettavate vero?!) ma, allacciandomi a quanto detto in apertura, l'ho comunque dovuta per forza di cose apprezzare a causa della sua indubitabile qualità.
Ne ho apprezzato la densità, coadiuvata anche dalla durata limitata dei singoli episodi (40 minuti) e della lunghezza risicata della serie (4 episodi, appunto). Sono in un periodo della vita in cui ho bisogno di essere messo di fronte a serie non troppo lunghe e con un minutaggio non troppo alto. Serie cosi, le metto in lista a prescindere.

A tratti, lo show mi ha ricordato l'ottimo Criminal UK.
L'ambientazione, infatti, per quanto multipla e dinamica è stata principalmente quella della sala interrogatori. E cosa ti serve quando basi gran parte del tuo show su un interrogatorio fra sospettato e inquirente? Un grande attore, o meglio ancora dei grandi attori. La Colman e Thewlis lo sono, oltre ogni ragionevole dubbio, e cosi quelle scene, quei monologhi, quei dialoghi si sono praticamente scritti da soli, aiutati come erano da questi 2 fenomeni della recitazione.

Il resto è uno strano thriller basato su una storia di cronaca nera occorsa nel 1998 a Mansfield, in Inghilterra.
Susan e suo marito Christopher vengono indagati per il doppio omicidio dei genitori di Susan.
La polizia li interroga, li interroga, li interroga e durante l'interrogatoria emerge con enorme potenza il legame e l'amore che unisce i 2 coniugi. Una storia d'amore forte e soprattutto molto vera, dietro la quale si celano vessazioni e torbide violenze psicologiche dei 2 assassinati nei confronti di Susan. Nel più classico dei thriller e dei drama che provano a non essere binari ma complessi, il colpevole genera una sorta di empatia perversa nei confronti dello spettatore che quasi finisce per assolvere chi è reo di un efferato delitto come l'omicidio dei propri genitori.

HBO l'ha fatto, e l'ha fatto, come sempre, benissimo, portando a casa il minimo sindacale per un emittente come HBO, ovvero un 7 abbondante che ha fatto felici tutti, spettatori, critica e la stessa casa di produzione.

As usual today I bring you in a new Preview of an article that in a few days or weeks you will see in the Mind of a SerialFiller, my blog entirely focused on the world of TV series and of which, for some months now, I have decided to give you constantly, in advance of what I will publish, most of the posts you will see on www.serialfiller.org.

We return to HBO today and we do so with a stellar cast and miniseries Landscapers.

A miniseries of only 4 episodes, Landscapers was released in late 2021 and featured an Oscar, Emmy, Golden Globe award winning actress (missing the telegatto but whatever), like Olivia Colman (Broadchurch, Fleabag and especially The Crown) and an excellent actor, albeit a much less celebrated and celebrated one, like David Thewlis.

As usual, after the initial incipit I happen to leave with other premises. It's a vice, a quirk that, unfortunately or fortunately, is part of my way of articulating thought.
Here I can tell you that Landscapers didn't make me crazy (you didn't expect that, did you?!) but, going back to what I said at the beginning, I still had to appreciate it because of its undoubted quality.
I appreciated the density, helped by the limited duration of the individual episodes (40 minutes) and the short length of the series (4 episodes, in fact). I'm in a period of life in which I need to be put in front of series not too long and with a not too high minute length. Series like this, I put them on my list regardless.

At times, the show reminded me of the excellent Criminal UK.
The setting, in fact, although multiple and dynamic was mainly that of the interrogation room. And what do you need when you base much of your show on an interrogation between suspect and investigator? A great actor, or better yet, great actors. Colman and Thewlis are, beyond any reasonable doubt, and so those scenes, those monologues, those dialogues practically wrote themselves, helped as they were by these two acting phenomena.

The rest is a strange thriller based on a crime story that took place in 1998 in Mansfield, England.
Susan and her husband Christopher are investigated for the double murder of Susan's parents.
The police interrogate them, question them, interrogate them and during the interrogation the bond and the love that unites the 2 spouses emerges with enormous power. A strong and above all very true love story, behind which lies harassment and murky psychological violence of the 2 murdered towards Susan. In the most classic of thrillers and dramas that try not to be binary but complex, the culprit generates a kind of perverse empathy towards the viewer who almost ends up absolving those who are guilty of a heinous crime such as the murder of their parents.

HBO has done it, and has done it, as always, very well, bringing home the minimum wage for a broadcaster like HBO, or a 7 abundant that has made everyone happy, viewers, critics and the same production company.
