Come di consueto oggi vi porto dentro una nuova Anteprima di un articolo che fra qualche giorno o settimana vedrete Nella Mente di un SerialFiller, il mio blog interamente incentrato sul mondo delle serie tv e di cui, da qualche mese, ho deciso di regalarvi costantemente, in anticipo su quello che pubblicherò, gran parte dei post che vedrete su www.serialfiller.org.
Stavolta nulla di importante.
Vi parlo di una serie super mega dimenticabile.
Ma ve ne parlo.
Perchè l'attore è quel che è.
E perchè tanto ho deciso di farlo e quindi eccoci qui.

Può un singolo attore invertire le sorti di una serie?

Può uno script deludente essere "corretto" dalla bravura del suo protagonista?

Può bastare la simpatia?

Turn Up Charlie sembra rispondere in maniera negativa a tutte e tre le domande.
Questa oramai "vecchia" serie tv targata Netflix ha puntato tutto su uno degli attori più efficienti, poliedrici e potenti degli ultimi anni, dimenticandosi, forse, di calcare la mano sulla penna che si appoggiava al copione. Troppi errori, troppe approssimazioni, troppe facilonerie hanno fatto di Turn Up Charlie una serie che, non a caso, non è mai riuscita a sfondare.
La ripesco in questo post quasi per caso, giusto per consigliarla a chi di Idris Elba non può fare a meno e di lui vorrebbe conoscere e seguire qualsivoglia progetto, anche quelli fallimentari.

Riprendendo quanto detto nell'incipit mi preme sottolineare come esistano interpreti capaci di reggere ogni confronto, anche quelli più insidiosi e che da letteralmente da soli sono in grado di sostenere una pellicola, una piece teatrale, uno show televisivo.
Questi attori sono quelli da cui è sempre possibile rifugiarsi quando la scrittura è scialba e ,quanto meno, poco originale.
Tali protagonisti hanno dalla loro parte una lunga scia di successi con i quali hanno conquistato i cuori dei fan.
Codesti attori sono riusciti a costruirsi, nel tempo, un cosi smisurato affetto soprattutto grazie al proprio sconfinato talento.
Uno di questi è sicuramente Idris Elba, attore afroamericano acclamatissimo nel Regno Unito a tal punto da essere da anni considerato il degno erede di Daniel Craig per il prossimo 007 (parole che cadono nel vuoto da anni ma che si ripetono ogni volta uguali a se stesse).

But I'm telling you about it.
Because the actor is what he is.
And because I decided to do it anyway, so here we are.

Can a single actor turn around the fortunes of a series?

Can a disappointing script be "corrected" by the skill of its protagonist?

Can sympathy be enough?

Turn Up Charlie seems to answer negatively to all three questions.
This by now "old" Netflix TV series has staked everything on one of the most efficient, versatile and powerful actors of recent years, forgetting, perhaps, to put their hand on the pen that rests on the script. Too many mistakes, too many approximations, too many oversimplifications have made Turn Up Charlie a series that, not surprisingly, has never managed to break through.
I find it again in this post almost by chance, just to recommend it to those who cannot do without Idris Elba and would like to know and follow any project, even the failed ones.

Going back to what I said in the beginning, I would like to underline how there are actors who are able to stand up to any comparison, even the most insidious ones, and who literally alone are able to sustain a film, a play, a TV show.
These actors are those from whom it is always possible to take refuge when the writing is dull and, at least, unoriginal.
These actors have on their side a long trail of successes with which they have won the hearts of fans.
These actors have managed to build, over time, such an immense affection mainly due to their boundless talent.
One of these is certainly Idris Elba, an African-American actor acclaimed in the United Kingdom to such an extent that for years he has been considered the worthy heir to Daniel Craig for the next 007 (words that have been falling on deaf ears for years but that are repeated every time as they were).
