Come di consueto oggi vi porto dentro una nuova Anteprima di un articolo che fra qualche giorno o settimana vedrete Nella Mente di un SerialFiller, il mio blog interamente incentrato sul mondo delle serie tv e di cui, da qualche mese, ho deciso di regalarvi costantemente, in anticipo su quello che pubblicherò, gran parte dei post che vedrete su www.serialfiller.org.

Il 13 giugno la serie arriverà anche in Italia, per la precisione su Sky. Vi consiglio di appuntarvi questa data a caratteri cubitali sulla vostra agenda o di inviarvi un calendar via posta elettronica perchè qui, ragazzi miei, si fa la storia (forse l'entusiasmo mi sta dando alla testa ma insomma la serie merita).
C'è tanto, tantissimo di cui andare fieri in questo pilot e tanti, troppi spunti, momenti e generi mixati che è impossibile che almeno una cosa non vi catturi immediatamente e vi lasci amare questo show.
E che le first impression abbiano inizio.

Si, è lei. E' Rose Leslie quella che avete ammirato nell'immagine di copertina. L'ex Ygritte di Game of Thrones e compagna di vita di Kit Harington, è la protagonista femminile di questo show. L'interprete maschile, invece, è Theo James, devo dire veramente molto sorprendente nel pilot.
La storia è una storia che non potrebbe essere in mani più sicure di quelle di Moffat.
Il timoniere più acclamato di Doctor Who ed ideatore di Sherlock, è finalmente tornato a deliziarci ed ogni scelta fatta in questo pilot trasuda Moffattianesimo da ogni poro.
Per dirla in un tweet, Theo James è Henry. Rose Leslie è Clare.
Henry è un crononauta. Questo particolare potere, che per tutti noi sarebbe la figata più figa di tutte le figate dell'universo, per lui rappresenta una maledizione, un continuo turbamento emotivo, psicologico e fisico. Henry, infatti, viaggia continuamente nel tempo ma non lo fa volontariamente. In qualsiasi momento, egli potrebbe essere proiettato in un'altra temporalità. Il salto nel tempo avviene da "nudo" ed Henry, ad ogni "jump" si trova a chiappe all'aria in un posto nuovo e lontano dal tempo in cui egli conduce la sua vita "presente". Altra particolarità è che Henry può proiettarsi solo all'interno della timeline occupante il suo orizzonte vitale, ovvero dalla sua nascita alla sua morte. Non prima. Non dopo. Raramente nel futuro, spessissimo nel suo passato.
E già da qui si intuisce che assisteremo ad una serie fatta di continui andirivieni, versioni adulte, giovani, duplicate del protagonista. Un mal di testa continuo ma piacevolissimo.
Clare è la moglie di Henry, che a differenza sua vive una vita lineare. Non girovaga nello spazio tempo e conduce un'esistenza fatta di attese infinite e di certezze elaborate proprio dal suo marito viaggiatore. Entrambi, dunque, costruiscono una vita fatta dell'altro, per l'altro, ed intorno all'altro, come se tutto fosse già scritto ma non ancora vissuto (almeno per Clare).
La bellezza di The Time Traveler's Wife è che è un fottutissimo macello ma è un macello che viene dominato con maestria dal signor Moffat, come sempre a suo agio quando si tratta di vagare nel tempo. Ma quello che rende la serie ancora più imperdibile è che essa non si poggia solo su questo continuo delirio fatto di salti temporali, attese snervanti, coincidenze, predestinazione e paradossi. All'interno di tutto ciò, infatti, vengono calati tanti altri generi e miriadi di cose fatte benissimo che non possono non essere che glorificate.

Is Time Travel the only thing to invest energy in in front of the TV?

Wouldn't a healthy "romance" be denied you?

The Time Traveler's Wife is a TV series from HBOMax based on the novel of the same name by an author whose name is unpronounceable but which fortunately I can faithfully copy here thanks to the most holy and blessed ctrl+c - ctrl+v (always praise be to those who invented it). It is (by the way) Audrey Niffenegger.
On June 13 the series will also arrive in Italy, to be precise on Sky. I suggest you pin this date in big letters in your diary or send yourself a calendar via e-mail because history is being made here, my boys (maybe the enthusiasm is getting to me but in short, the series deserves it).
There is so much, so much to be proud of in this pilot and so many, too many cues, moments and genres mixed in that it is impossible for at least one thing not to immediately capture you and leave you loving this show.
And let the first impressions begin.

Yes, that's her. That's Rose Leslie you've been admiring in the cover image. The former Ygritte from Game of Thrones and life partner of Kit Harington, she is the female lead in this show. The male performer, on the other hand, is Theo James, I must say really quite amazing in the pilot.
The story is one that could not be in safer hands than Moffat's.
The most acclaimed helmer of Doctor Who and creator of Sherlock, has finally returned to delight us and every choice made in this pilot oozes Moffattianism from every pore.
As one tweet put it, Theo James is Henry. Rose Leslie is Clare.
Henry is a chrononaut. This particular power, which for all of us would be the coolest coolness of all coolness in the universe, for him represents a curse, a constant emotional, psychological, and physical upheaval. Henry, in fact, continuously travels through time but does not do so voluntarily. At any moment, he could be projected into another temporality. The jump in time occurs from "naked" and Henry, at each "jump" finds himself butt-naked in a new place far from the time in which he leads his "present" life. Another peculiarity is that Henry can project himself only within the timeline occupying his life horizon, that is, from his birth to his death. Not before. Not after. Rarely into the future, very often into his past.
And already from here we sense that we are going to witness a series made up of constant back-and-forth, adult, young, duplicated versions of the protagonist. A constant but most enjoyable headache.
Clare is Henry's wife, who unlike him lives a linear life. She does not wander through space-time and leads an existence of endless waiting and certainties worked out by her own traveling husband. Both, then, construct a life made of the other, for the other, and around the other, as if everything were already written but not yet lived (at least for Clare).
The beauty of The Time Traveler's Wife is that it is a fucking shambles but it is a shambles that is masterfully mastered by Mr. Moffat, as always at ease when it comes to time wandering. But what makes the series even more unmissable is that it rests not only on this continuous delirium of time jumps, nerve-wracking waiting, coincidences, predestination and paradoxes. Within it all, in fact, are dropped so many other genres and myriad things done beautifully that cannot but be glorified.
For example, the series is also a damn romantic series. The love between Henry and Clare, however messy, flawed, and inaccurate, seems to be a love that is very true, very pure, and "in the destiny" of both. The 2 look at each other, cuddle, wait for each other, desire each other but do so in a context where literally everything is possible and impossible at the same time. Clare might meet in the same day a 28-year-old Henry as well as a 36-year-old Henry but she might also see him disappear for weeks while she is sipping coffee at breakfast, without her knowing where and when he ended up.
The series has its mystery component that is powerfully revealed in the finale. It has its obvious sci-fi component. It has its romantic component hinted at just now. It is definitely loaded with drama, albeit veiled. And it is, among a thousand other things, also light and funny.
The Time Traveler's Wife really has everything to be a success and, if things go the right way, a small masterpiece.
After all, we are talking about a story "Developed by Steven Moffat."
