When shooting images in which there is both the sun and sufficiently dark places, it is very often necessary to use HDR in order to approach the perception of the view as we see. And to show a wide view of the landscape, there is nothing better than a panorama! Therefore, I had to work a little and merge several images into one in order to get this final result. But how much exactly?

What is Panoramic Photography?
Panoramic photography, also known as wide format photography, is a special technique that stitches multiple images from the same camera together to form a single, wide photograph (vertical or horizontal).
The first panoramic photographs were made by simply aligning printed versions of film, which did not turn out very well, because it was close to impossible to perfectly align photographs. With the invention of personal computing, advancements in computer software and digital photography, it is now much easier to stitch digital images together using specialized software. In fact, using a proper photography technique and panoramic equipment, it is now possible to create near-perfect panoramas at extremely high resolutions. Some photographers even stitch hundreds of high resolution images to create gargantuan “gigapixel” panoramas.
Panoramas can either be photographed in a single row (meaning one row of vertical or horizontal images) or multiple rows.

What is HDR and HDR Panoramic Photography?
HDR or High Dynamic Range Photography is a post-processing technique that uses multiple images of the same scene shot at different shutter speeds to combine them all into a single photograph. The result is an image with the most amount of detail in both shadow and bright areas of the image, close to what the human eye would see.
Modern digital cameras can capture a fairly wide range of exposure values between “black” on the dark end to “white” on the light end. They are not capable of reproducing the full range of exposure values that the human eye can see, however. The purpose of HDR then is to expand the exposure range that the camera can capture to more closely approximate what we see. This is done by combining a group of photographs of the same scene that have been intentionally both under and over exposed. These multiple exposures are combined using dedicated software to produce an image with a greater exposure range than the original single image can contain. The number of different exposures taken can vary, but for our purposes at least 3 are needed.
HDR Panoramic Photography is a combination of two fairly widely used photographic techniques, the making of panoramas with HDR photograph.

- All metadata has been stripped from the pictures, so don’t bother looking for the EXIF!
- We are not required to tell you what kind of camera was used, or what time of day the photo was taken at, or whether filters were involved (this adds to the mystery and the challenge!)
