Yesterday, I spent a great and value-able time with my relatives, packing and assembling supplication parcels for the people. Every year in the month of Moharam, we have a food dedication, and yesterday was that day, when we invited Dasta E Hussaini, and more than 200 parcels were distributed to the people. This supplication is not only for the poor, nor is it a form of charity. It is for anyone who wants to eat it, and everyone is welcome. However, this parcel is restricted to only 200 to 300 packs of food for the first people.
This deed is known in Persian as Nazr O Niyaz, which is also an Urdu word with a difficult English translation, but I have used the words supplication or dedication, which is not charity. Moharam is the Islamic month in which Prophet Mohammad's (SAW) grandson and his family were martyred. I would like to encourage everyone to read the story of the ASHURA Procession so that you can learn more about it and understand the significance of that day. Today is the 9th of Moharam, and the 10th of Moharam is Ashura Day, which commemorates Yazidis' cruelty and brutality against the family of Imam Hussain.
This has a brief story behind it, and I will try to give a summary of what happened on the day of Ashura later tomorrow. This food packaging and distribution is being done in memory of this day. I have some pictures of this day and different moments of food packing that we did before the people and guests arrived. In the first photo, you can see my niece and other relatives gathered together, busy packing sweets and candies.
We sew these candies together with a needle to make a large ring shape; in our culture, we make a pack of candies that looks like a large necklace and then distribute it to the people. As you can see in the picture, it takes us about an hour to complete the packing process. Following that, we proceed to the next stage of packing, which is the packing of food. This act was performed by the women in our families because men are not as skilled at packing food as women are.
The food is called Daal, Qeema, and Salad, and it is a popular Pakistani dish. Daal is lentils, and Qeema is beef mince. All of the ingredients are combined and then packed onto a slice of bread. I showed some photos of myself packing and the food that was completely packed. I showed some images of the ingredients used to make this food. This process also takes longer than an hour because we make more than 200 packs, which is not as simple as it appears.
This is a short story about food packing and dedication to the people. I hope you enjoy the cultural photos and read, and if you do, please leave a review in the comments section so that the next post will be even better. Thank you for sticking with me until the end.
