I have always heard people talk about the beauty standards in the society. Here in our country, the Philippines, if you have lighter skin tone, you will absolutely get that second look from everyone. Or I must say, that they quite get the attention more. And to us, who are dark-skinned, we get to be bullied or laughed at because of our skin tone. The stigma still exists, and it has always been one of the reasons why some women lose their confidence. The society's beauty standard here in our country build insecurities, but there are also other people who empower and boost each other's confidence.
And being one of the dark-skinned women out there, I can say that it's a tough battle between insecurities and your self-esteem. But as I grew up and embraced self-love, I realized that no matter what the society says or no matter what their beauty standard is, it's your confidence that will rise above all of it. This might sound cliché, but we are all beautiful in our own ways. We just need to find the courage and acceptance deep down to embrace the kind of beauty we have inside and out.
Câlins et bisous!
