I was summoned to jury duty for the first time in my young life. (i am 48 now) I only made it through the selection process which only took 2 days.. 1 for initial registration of the potential jurors, and 1 actual court day with interviews of about 40 people until the final jury was selected. The judge excused all of us that were not chosen. I was never even called for interview by the lawyers.
In total there were 208 potential jurors and they only chose 12 jurors and 2 alternates. I was relieved to never be called and that I got to go home, but part of me wanted to be part of it and stay to hear the case. Turns out it was a murder trial.. this shocked me as maui is a bit of a small county type and NOT known for these things happening very often. The judge told us to wait several days before discussing anything about the case, but I think more than enough time has passed, I don't want to gossip, but it seems the man on trial had killed an officer of police or FBI. oh wow!
I was glad I had that experience although I'm also glad it was all over with so fast. I was ready to serve, but I think I'm much happier chillin at home and hiving/trading/etc. :P
ps. The court also paid for our time which I didn't know they did.. :) oh, and I didn't think it was cool of me to take any pics, even outside the courtroom, so the fist 2 are from pixabay.. thanks pixabay!
