Once the bees start showing back up, I know that winter is ending. Right now, this is my favorite weather of the whole year. It is warm enough to go outside and enjoy the sun, but still cool enough to where we can open up the windows in the house and keep things cool and air out our home.
I am thinking about planting some flowers in the front yard and giving the bees a place to hang out. With how bad water levels have become over the past few years, I have also been contemplating getting rid of the grass in our front yard and xeriscaping. It will basically make my front yard look like a desert with rocks and other desert style plants. The only problem is that I would need to find out if having a xeriscaped yard violates any of the rules of our stupid HOA. It will be nice to reduce our water needs for our yard, plus my neighbors have a ton of weeds that just blow seeds all over in my yard and I get a ton of dandelions.
It would be cool to have a bird bath area, some hummingbird feeders and a few flower beds mixed in with rocks throughout the whole front yard. It will be a lot easier to take care of than grass when they start imposing watering restrictions and the front lawn begins to die in a few months when it really begins to get hot here. Sometimes living in a desert can suck.
