Hello everyone, how are you today?
Today I would like to introduce to you Lung Cu Flag Tower - The Pride of the Vietnamese Nation. Lung Cu Flag Tower is the northernmost flagpole of Vietnam located at Lung Cu Peak (also known as Dragon Mountain) in Lung Cu Commune, Dong Van District, Ha Giang Province, Vietnam. It is located at an altitude of about 1,470 m above sea level and is considered a national pride and landmark marking the territory of Vietnam adjacent to China.
Lung Cu Flag Tower is about 3.3 km from the northernmost landmark in Vietnam, about 24 km from the center of Dong Van district and 154 km from Ha Giang city. Below the flag tower is the observatory where we can admire the poetic beauty of Lo Lo Chai Village - The northernmost village of Vietnam. The landscape at the foot of the flag tower is rolling mountains and terraced fields, creating a very wild and typical beauty of Ha Giang - the Northernmost Province of Vietnam. From the top of the flag tower, we can see two lakes on either side of the mountain like dragon's eyes, that's why the mountain where the flag tower is located is called Dragon Mountain. In particular, these two lakes do not dry up all year round and it is a source of domestic water for ethnic people in the area. The Lo Lo and H'Mong ethnic groups here live on the Dong Van rock plateau, so rainwater and water from nature such as lakes, rivers and streams become their daily water sources.
Historically, Lung Cu Flag Tower was first built during the Ly Thuong Kiet period and was originally made of only cunninghamia tree, a typical and symbolic tree of this area. When General Ly Thuong Kiet drove the Song invaders back home, he used a cunning Accordinghamia tree to make a flagpole at the top of Dragon Mountain to mark the territory of Vietnam. After that, it was rebuilt from the French colonial period, in 1887. In the years 1992 and 2000 it was restored and rebuilt many times with increasing size over time. And especially in 2002, Lung Cu Flag Tower was rebuilt with a height of about 20m. The base and pedestal of the tower have a hexagonal shape and the base consists of 6 reliefs with surface motifs of Dong Son bronze drums, which are symbols of the Dong Son Culture in the period of national construction (700 BC - 100). At the top of the tower is a 9m high flagpole and the Vietnamese national flag has a length of 9m, a width of 6m and a total area of 54 square meters, representing the 54 ethnic groups of Vietnam.
I was fortunate to have the opportunity to come here during my 3 day solo trip in this land. When I first arrived here, I was overwhelmed by its majestic beauty. Along with that, I also feel proud to stand at a milestone marking the territory of the country where many generations of Vietnamese people have sacrificed to protect. Hope you enjoy this destination and have a nice day!
