El año pasado, terminando el invierno en Chile y casi entrando la primavera, tuve la oportunidad de viajar al Embalse El Yeso. Fue un viaje de aproximadamente 2 horas desde el centro de Santiago hasta la comuna de San José de Maipo, provincia de Cordillera.

Es un lugar encantador donde se puede apreciar a los lejos la Cordillera de los Andes. Además, también se puede ver la nieve y un agua cristalina que se empoza. Alguien me comentó allí que el agua proviene del río Maipú y el Yeso, por eso el nombre del embalse.

Me sorprendió la alta cantidad de turistas que estaban en este lugar. Había muchos argentinos y brasileños. En el Embalse El Yeso sentí paz y calma, muy diferentes de lo que ocurre en la región metropolitana de Santiago. El silencio era relajante.

Todo era tan frío, que tenía que estar abrigada, con guantes y bufanda. Como era la primera vez que visitaba este sitio, aproveché de tomarme fotos y, disfrutar junto a mi mamá y mi hija Isabella.

Me pareció interesante que, siendo un lugar visitado por muchos turistas, no había restaurantes o comercios para hacer compras, solo hay vendedores ambulantes y muy pocos. Es una especie de mirador natural donde debes llevar tus cosos y comida, pero sin duda fue un buen panorama.

The Yeso Reservoir: A Natural Paradise in Chile

Last year, at the end of winter in Chile and almost in the beginning of spring, I had the opportunity to travel to the El Yeso reservoir. It was a trip of approximately 2 hours from downtown Santiago to the commune of San José de Maipo, Cordillera province.

It is an enchanting place where you can see the Andes Mountains in the distance. In addition, you can also see the snow and a crystal clear water that pools. Someone told me there that the water comes from the Maipú and Yeso rivers, hence the name of the reservoir.

I was surprised by the high number of tourists that were in this place. There were many Argentinians and Brazilians. In Embalse El Yeso I felt peace and calm, very different from what happens in the metropolitan region of Santiago. The silence was relaxing.

Everything was so cold that I had to be warm, with gloves and a scarf. As it was the first time I visited this place, I took the opportunity to take pictures and enjoy with my mom and my daughter Isabella.

I found it interesting that, being a place visited by many tourists, there were no restaurants or stores for shopping, there are only street vendors and very few of them. It is a kind of natural viewpoint where you have to bring your things and food, but it was certainly a good view.
