Guess what I was up to last night! Here's the scene at the height of the second Saturday evening street festival in a suburb of Hiroshima. This place, Rakurakuen, holds TWO Saturday evening street festivals, one after the other on the last two Saturdays of July, except for a four year break during the Corona thang.
Corona is still around, apparently, and the hospitals are said to be filling up, but for some reason it is no longer part of the news agenda in Japan, and, just like last week, people came pouring into Rakurakuen to enjoy the festival.
The highlights of last night's festival for me were:
- Sausage and beer!
- One of the hip-hop dancing girls who was in a different league to the rest of her dance group. They were good, but mechanical, whereas she was full of the sheer joy of the dance on a summer night under a waxing moon in healing Ophiuchus (which I could see above the building in front of which they were dancing). Yes, I should had unglued my eyes from the dancer and taken a video for you to see what I'm blathering on about, but I just couldn't manage it!
I was too mushy to video the hip-hop dancer, but I did manage to record the sausage and beer for posterity:
The only thing that was missing from last night, and last week's festival, was the lady selling charcoal grilled sweetfish.
Gotta love summer in Japan!
Cheers!
