This is my happy time. A fresh pot of tea, a chess board set up for a study session, and a couple of Kit-Kat bars.
Kit-Kat is famous for its slogan, “Have a break, have a Kit-Kat!” Shouldn’t you be STUDYING chess, not having a break?
Ah but, in Japanese, “kit-kat” 「キットカット」sounds similar to “kitto katsu” 「きっと勝つ。」, which means “You’ll surely win!” - ideal for chess study!
The two mini Kit-kat bars are the dark chocolate variety branded as “Otona no amasa” or “sweetness for adults,” which is printed in Japanese on every bar: 「オトナの甘さ。」.
Very clever marketing, as “dark chocolate” is considered more adult than milk chocolate, more sophisticated, for a more mature palette; and who doesn’t want to feel mature and sophisticated?
Each bar also has an encouraging message and could be given out to employees as a reward for good work.
The message on the top bar reads, “From all the team with love,” 「チーム 一同から愛を込めて。」.
The message on the bottom bar reads, “Just as expected, (you’re the) company Ace!”: 「さすが、 わが社のエース!」.
I doubt that I shall “ace” my chess studies, love them though I do.
