I'm being challenged coming up a content for my LF page so I thought of breaking it for a little while and share some photographs of greens. Because why not, right?😆
I actually read a post sometime ago saying that if we are having a writer's block or something, we can do any post even if it is outside of what we intended to focus on so I'm doing that today.
Anyway, we were by the strawberry fields sometime in December and we passed by the place where they had lots and lots of potted lettuce seedlings. I was in awe of their almost uniform sizes and heights so I had to take photos of the countless trays in rows.
They were within an area with concrete fence all around but it's just good I was tall enough to be able to take photos of them. I may have looked like a crazy paparazzi while doing it except that I only used my phone camera, haha!
Farmers and or gardeners who do not have enough spaces to grow their own seedlings usually pre-order from places like this. The seedlings are sold by the trays and each tray costs around $4 or $5. One tray has 128 holes so if every seed sown has germinated, there will be 128 seedlings on it. Say 120 on average per tray. I think it's actually a great business.
My brother, just like other people too, prefer to buy them like that because they take shorter period of time to grow compared to those that germinate on seed beds (without the trays). I wonder why but maybe because they have their own space (hole) so their growth is a bit faster and the nutrients might be more concentrated on their roots as opposed to having them cramped on very limited spaces.
We tried doing this on a very small scale, like 20 trays just to be planted on our backyard garden but we never really had the same outcome where the seedlings germinated evenly and grown uniformly. Maybe there is a certain technique to do which we are yet to learn. And that we shall find out, lol!
They were on tunneled greenhouses by the way but their plastic covering or roofing had been removed probably because they are almost ready to be transplanted.
And these are just what I'm sharing for the day. Happy Friday!
