"All Fungi are edible. Some fungi are only edible once."
ā Terry Pratchett
The quote above is kinda funny but reading between the lines, I think it's true. All fungi are edible but some can only be eaten once because when you eat them and they're poisonous, then you wouldn't have any second chance, lol!
And that's what the Galerina Graminea or Turf Bells are (first and second photos). They are small brown -spore fungi that according to Wikipedia are found around the world and are suspected to be extremely poisonous species.
"Galerina" means helmet-like, while "graminea" means "of grass". - Source
They are very tiny and grow where there are moss, mostly on garden walls. It's interesting that although they look so fragile, they still survive even when the rainwater often gush through the walls of the garden each time it rains.
The succeeding photographs were captured down the yard a month ago. There were a stack of tree branches which were used as poles for the garden tomatoes before and the husband piled them close to where the lemon trees are and the mushrooms made them their home. I noticed them while checking out the Chinese cabbages which we had potted down there and of course, I couldn't resist taking photos of them.
Per Google Lens, they are called "Turkey Tails" (please correct me if I misidentified them) or Trametes Versicolor. They are called so apparently because of their shape and their multiple colors which are similar to that of a wild turkey. Source
And the last collage (except the bottom picture for they were that of the Turkey Tails) was identified as Lichens but further research made me think it is incorrect. So I may just as well call them as "Tree fungus." They are very small fungi and they stick into the tree branch like some virus, lol!
But yeah, it's just fascinating how diverse our ecosystem is. Our world is filled with both living and non-living organisms that coexist whether we take notice or not. Just let a wood or a tree branch lie around somewhere and chances are, after a few weeks or so, there would be something sprouting in it. It's kinda magical don't you think?
Anyhow, it's Sunday and I'm going to make it my lazy day somehow. The husband drove away early in the morning going to the city for some errands and because I still feel I'm out of energy to be on the road and back, I opted to stay.
And so I wish you a fabulous weekend everyone!
Cheers!
