Gracious in defeat, humble in success.✨
Hello, Hivers. Rej here and I'm finally back for another Rejourney. Today's Rejourney is something very special to me. I'm a bit emotional while writing this because my humble beginnings is flashing back right now. I'm finally gonna be sharing this small win with you that happened in the first quarter of 2023. I don't usually share about my life in the corporate world, but this one is an exception. There's a voice from within telling me to share this inspiring journey with you.
I know this happened earlier this year, but I chose to share it right now since July is also the month that I'll be turning 6 years in the corporate world. So here we go.
I am working in a food processing company here in Cebu, Philippines for about 6 years now. This is my first job and I am in the field of Sales. When I started, I honestly don't have any idea how to do things in this field. I've been through ups and downs and even a lot of rejections. I never depended on the fact that I graduated with Latin honors. I really worked my way up to be the person that I am today. A lot of sleepless nights and crying moments in private fueled me to achieve my dreams and excel in my field.
Every year, our company has this National Sales Convention wherein the Sales and Marketing personnels from Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao will unite for like 4-5 days with series of activities and a culminating/awarding ceremony on the last day. When COVID-19 happened, we just had it virtually. After few years, we're finally back to have it face to face for National Sales Convention 2023. This year's venue was in Solea Hotel & Resorts in Cordova, Cebu, Philippines. It was an all expense paid by the company and I am truly grateful to be part of this event.
I had a great time meeting our colleagues from the areas. We had series of activities with a lot of takeaways. This National Sales Convention is also an event that paved a way for us to have a deeper connection with our colleagues. We had fun while learning.
On the last day of our National Sales Convention, we had a Thanksgiving dinner and awarding ceremony. It was a great surprise for me when I was awarded as an Outstanding Account Specialist of The Year. I really cried that night. Receiving that award reminds me of all the sacrifices I had to deliver my best at work. I am just a simple employee who did my job and receiving an award like this is truly a blessing. I was asked to deliver a speech and I literally cried. I am truly grateful to the company and my mentors for acknowledging all my efforts. Hearing my colleagues comments that I truly deserve that award is like a music to my ears. I am also grateful to my colleagues and bosses in the industry for contributing a lot to my professional growth. They are a blessing!
With everything that happened to me that night, I realized that my family is my greatest inspiration. As a person who wasn't born with a silver spoon, this one is truly an achievement for us. Even when I was still that woman before who started from scratch, they always believe in me that I can be someone someday.
It really felt that I was floating in Cloud 9 that night. Last 2020, we had our last face to face National Sales Convention in Waterfont Hotel. It was the last face to face National Sales Convention that we had before the outbreak of COVID- 19 happened. During that time, I was a nominee as well as Oustanding Account Specialist of the Year and little did I know that this 2023, I will receive again another award. This time, as an Outstanding Account Specialist of the Year already. What a journey it has been.
In life, I always believe that it is not just your intelligence & skills that would take you to places, but big part of it will always be your character. It is about how you deal with others. It is about reaching for the stars without stepping on anyone's toes.
Still a long way to go for this journey. Day by day, I am also assessing myself what else I wanna do in life. I'm taking things one step at a time. I'm living and appreciating what's in the present while planning for the future.
May this story of mine remind you that all of our dreams are valid. I am a proud province girl and will continue to dream while I still can.
That's it for today's Rejourney. I will see you all on my next one. Much love from your Inspiring Cebuana. Stay safe!
