Hello Hive! I am bringing you today to our trip to Mapaso Hot Spring in Mainit, Surigao del Norte. Have you ever wondered what Mindanao has to offer? Since I started sharing my travel content in the community, I've always wanted to promote local places including our Hometown or generally the Island of Mindanao.
As some of you might have already heard things about Mindanao aside from it being where former President Rodrigo Duterte lives but also some infamous remarks about it as a place where the terrorists hide or generally perceived to be a dangerous place by some locals from Luzon area and foreign tourists.
This seems to be a huge misconception towards Mindanao as people are unaware that only the far south part of the Island is being utilized by a few rebels and the Authority is in full force in fighting against terrorism.
People don't know that there are a lot of gems that it can offer like beautiful and non-commercialized beaches and waterfalls. a lot more natural tourist attractions, and delicious delicacies from different provinces.
Mapaso Hot Spring is located in the Municipality of Mainit in the province of Surigao del Norte, Philippines. It is one of the most visited tourist destinations in Surigao del Norte as it has unique therapeutic properties from the sulfuric water that flows through the resort.
The Spring is definitely worth dipping in. As you may have not known yet. Hot Springs have a few health benefits like it helps blood circulation, reducing stress, promoting good sleep, relieving pain, and healing skin problems.
You can reach Mapaso Hot Spring by bus, private vehicle, or motorcycle and it only takes an hour from Surigao City proper. It takes a few minutes from the highway road of Mainit. You can ask some locals where the available motorcycles going to the resort. Upon entering, there will be an entrance fee of 30 pesos. It also has parking spaces for your private vehicles.
You can choose from a few cottages, with prices ranging from 250 pesos to 1500 pesos. (5 Dollars to 26.48 US Dollars) depending on the size of the cottage. They have umbrella cottages, mushrooms, and medium to extra-large cottages. It's just a bit pricey compared to other resorts maybe because they are the only known Hot Spring in the area. Anyway, the place is worth it, you surely will have a relaxing dip and the place is well maintained. Do not worry about its cleanliness as it is clearly flowing water from the mountain.
During our visit, almost everything was great except for the toilet area. The comfort rooms are not well attended. It stinks and it doesn't have enough water. I hope that this will be brought to their management's attention as a lot of us have noticed and complained about it. Overall, it was a good experience with my family as everyone enjoyed our time dipping into the hot water.
As I always say, we should be responsible for our actions. We must do our research before doing any activities so we are aware of what awaits us in our destinations. Most importantly, as responsible hikers, we should always live by the rule of LEAVE NO TRACE. We should respect everything and everyone that benefits nature and the trails.
