Story time with Jongo!
So about a year ago, my family and I decided to make a big move. And it wasn't that it was far away from the city we've lived in for years, but it was just that....We left the city!
For the better part of over 4 decades, I've lived in cities. Major ones at that. And I've always said, when I had the chance I would love to move to the middle of the country, where our closest neighbor is about a mile or two away.
That opportunity presented itself last year.
My family and I (there are 3 generations living on the acreage) made the move and we knew that one day, we'd love to become 100% sustainable and live off the land and the resources around us. There's something truly special about living off what God provides and we wanted to make that a reality.
But it'll be a process...
So the first year was...Just getting settled! Last year we dealt with asbestos contamination and removal, a flooded basement and a 25 year old septic system that needs to be replaced.
And as year two begins, it was time to dive into raising some chickens and getting our garden ready for planting.
Yup, the journey to live off the land has begun and my wife and I have been busy getting one of the outbuildings on the property ready for chickens.
A few of the pictures I shared on Liketu show the progress so far and the garden that's getting ready for seeds. What an exciting time in 'Jongoland!'
Fun fact....
I have as much knowledge on this stuff as a 1 year old child does, so I'm completely new to it all. And thankfully, there are some experienced people on Hive that have been doing this stuff for years that I can learn from.
I'll be watching and reading a ton of content from and
And if anyone who recommend anyone else that can teach this old dog new tricks...It would be greatly appreciated!
Here's to a fruitful 2023 on the acreage!
