The last couple of weeks I saw a lot of small movies about Orcas (or killer whales) eating great white sharks in the sea by South Africa. A weird situation as that one of the scariest animals in the world gets eaten by 'free Willy'. I guess we sometimes tend to forget that the ocean is a world we are all not that familiar as yet with.
The ocean is an impressing and beautiful but also a deep and scary place.
When I was by this beach and wanted to go for a small swim I was looking out for riptides. Normally I always check out with locals on how the ocean situation is, especially since there was no one in the sea.
I talked to a lady there about the riptides there and where to look out for. The lady laughed a bit, and said
'well the riptides are not the main issue here to be scared about' and she laughed out loud about it.
A couple minutes later I saw a whale in the distance jumping out of the water just at random.
Yeah... what we don't see beyond the water line, that is a whole different ballgame. Imagine free Willy passing by there on the hunt for the shark.
I guess you can imagine my morning swim stopped about at knee deep water....
