…Such a lovely place, such a lovely face. With the drizzle outside it feels like the sky is crying a little bit and while I was walking outside I nearly tripped over the amount of mushrooms everywhere. Now is the time for them to be there.
There is this Dutch saying when something is popping up everywhere all of a sudden ‘Die schieten als paddenstoelen uit de grond’ which literally means like ‘is popping up out of the the ground everywhere like mushrooms’ and I guess this is the week where this is actually true. They are everywhere. From old trees to open spots in the woods, to dense full spots in the woods. It seems like they are everywhere.
No wonder when you go out for dinner that at the moment everything has their speciality with shrooms in there to eat. Why not eat something that is from the season, and the season is shrooms now. It seems logical and I still would love to have the skill to see if a mushroom is poisonous to eat or not. A friend of mine had a course and is all into this world and walks outside to get her shrooms for dinner. Honestly, I think in Holland this is illegal but I am not entirely sure. The amount of edible mushrooms is not the biggest here, and the same as for instance with chestnuts…nature and the animals in the woods also need them.
So that is the only thing we do. Walk in the woods and enjoy the sight of these little rascals together in groups just chilling there, and try to prevent the dog from running over them. These small ones always seem to be in groups for some reason, so pulling the dog away from them was the biggest task.
And that is why in this weekend indoors with drizzle, we turn on some alternative classics from ‘the Eagles.’ Welcome to the hotel shroomia, on FungiFriday hosted by
