Today I wanted to give you a sequence of sunset images in Gibara, taken from the highest point in the city: La Vigía viewpoint. There is a curiosity about this place, and that is that despite the fact that La Vigía is its official name, for most people the name is simply Los Caneyes.
This city maintains a very particular romance with light. According to the filmmakers and people from the cinema and audiovisual industry who visit it year after year, Gibara is "very photographable." Its natural location, the urban layout and the layout of its streets in perfect Roman grids, makes the light to create unparalleled contrasts and drawings. Photographers from the beginning of this art declared that they painted with light, and that is exactly what I have tried to do in these photos, surely without being able to emulate the greats of photography, but after all they are my verses, my images, my emotions and my city.
Hoy he querido regalarles una secuencia de imágenes del atardecer en Gibara, tomadas desde el punto más alto de la ciudad: el mirador La Vigía. Hay una curiosidad respecto a este sitio, y es que a pesar de que La Vigía sea su nombre oficial, para la mayoría de las personas el nombre es simplemente Los Caneyes.
Esta ciudad mantiene un romance muy particular con la luz. Al decir de los cineastas y gente del cine y el audiovisual que año tras año la visitan, Gibara es "muy fotografiable". Su ubicación natural, la disposición urbanística y el trazado de sus calles en perfectas cuadrículas romanas, hacen que la iluminación cree contrastes y dibujos inigualables. Los fotógrafos desde el inicio de este arte declaraban que ellos pintaban con luz, y precisamente eso he tratado de hacer en estas fotos, seguramente sin conseguir emular a los grandes de la fotografía, pero a fin de cuentas son mis versos, mis imágenes, mis emociones y mi ciudad.
