This is the city's version of Flores de Mayo. Instead of parade, they held a floral sculpture competition instead. The first competition was started last year. This is one of the events that I was looking forward to. Events like this encourage and showcase the creativity of the people. Baguio City is awarded the title of UNESCO's Creative City so why not have something to showcase such artistry.
Last year's competition had given us more entries. This year, however, there were only six. There may have been some other entries during the opening of the event but what I saw online so far are photos of these six entries.
Baguio City is known for its flowers that's why it is but proper that the city decided to have competition like this. We do have our flower festival held every February or March. Since pandemic, there were no parades held but we have landscape competition. Aside from displaying the talents of the city of Baguio and the Cordilleras, it also shows the flowers that are grown locally and nearby towns and provinces.
The winners of the said event are listed in the city's public page. They are:
Winners Category 1: Individual
1st place- Sherley Suyot
2nd place- Olimar Romero
3rd place- Rovilyn Mayat-an
Winners Category 2: Group/Institutional:
1st place- BB Wedding & Events Styling
2nd place- Wright Park Plant Vendor Association
3rd place-Kathrine Ann A. Galvan and Company
I like all of them. I don't know what were the criteria but I don't want to be the judge for these. Anyone can be the winner. I don't remember if there were different categories last year. The event was held at the Rose Garden in Burnham Park where last year's competition was also held. These will be displayed until May 22, 2022. If you will be visiting the city, you still have time to check them out.
We have the same weather like the one we have last year: rainy days. I hope the flowers will still be intact come May 22. Last year though, the participants of the said event made another floral sculpture on the last day of the said event. Maybe this year it will be the same. That is something to look forward to.
I hope more will be encouraged to join next year's competition.
I tried posting this in liketu website several times but nothing is happening when I clicked post so I decided to post it here instead.
