A house help of ours came with news that she had seen a snake in the chicken coop. I rushed there to find out what the racket was all about and found this in the drum containing chicken feed.
She seemed terrified of it, and being the superstitious type, was convinced that some evil person had sent it to torment us. I looked for a container and put it inside. I didn't need a large one as the snake was about 2 feet long.
For some reason, it wasn't very frightened of me and it instinctively glided itself into the container as I was trying to put it in. It did have some injuries though, maybe from another person's attempt at killing it or from an attack from another animal.
I contacted a wildlife tour guide friend of mine to help me identify the snake, as I thought it was one of those little ones that grow into large constrictors.
I learned that it was a harmless house-snake that feeds on rat babies, which is a very good thing considering the way they multiply really fast and insist on sharing food with the chicken uninvited. Those with a healthy fear of snakes may need to know this particular one, so that they don't run into things while taking off upon spotting it.
These snakes don't grow any bigger than 3 to 4 feet.
