Hi Hivers!
I recently volunteered with a group of people at Kythe, a non-profit organization that aims to uplift the lives of children with cancer. Our task for the day was to help clean up the playroom the kids use during their stay at the hospital.
I'm with Ate Jem and Ate Belle and we are assigned to QCMM (Quirino Memorial Medical Center. Unfortunately, due to the crucial health of the kids, we are advised to limit the visitor as well as the volunteers, Face to Face interaction with kids are still not allowed but Kythe is working on it.
We work for 5 hours cleaning the playroom, It wasn't visited for 2 years because of the Pandemic that's why we saw a lot of dirt in every corner of the room so cleaning it is quite challenging.
We first sort the things that can be used and sanitized then we arrange them accordingly also separate the ones that have already broken and Ate Jem told us that we will donate them to the other charities. Ate Belle told me that she was going to clean up the floor, toys, and cabinets while I do the sorting and sanitizing. Well, it makes it easier cause we have a task that we are focusing on.
At lunchtime, Ate Jem ordered food online and we ate together inside the playroom, while eating we talk about our lives and the reason why we do the volunteer work until we are all comfortable and getting close to each other. We are now laughing and enjoying each other's company.
It was a heartwarming experience to see how the children's faces lit up as we helped them organize their toys, books, and games however, we are not able to play with them until further notice but I'm pretty glad to see them personally. It was my first time cause I've been an active volunteer at Kythe for 2 years now but still, I'm not able to check them due to covid restrictions. Seeing them for the first time is unexplainable feelings I have mixed emotions, happy and sad at the same time
cause I just witnessed their true condition, I realized that life is so unfair!
2 PM when we finish cleaning up the playroom, we're in different places and separate ways so that's the time we say goodbye to each other.
After my volunteer work at Kythe, I explored the Grand East Mall and stumbled upon an unexpected art gallery. The artwork displayed was breathtaking and it was amazing to see how much talent there was in the world.
I was perplexed when I walked around the gallery, admiring the beautiful 3D paintings. It was a nice change of pace from the morning's volunteer work and a reminder that there is beauty in the world even during tough times.
Overall, it was a fulfilling day spent with good company and making a difference in the lives of those who needed it most. I will volunteer with Kythe again in the future and hope to stumble upon more un galleries like the art gallery along the way.
