This week's quest got me thinking. I didn't want to create a scene to invoke a mystical feeling, but rather search for something that represented a quasi-mystical moment in my life. The pursue for this sentiment brought me back to 2017. I only had a compact camera and zero knowledge of photography, explaining the rushed composition, low-quality photos here presented (at least compared to what I shoot today). Why entering these photos for a contest? Because often times a well-thought idea surpasses the technicality.
To better understand the photos one should read Chapter 13 of Tales of a Patagonian Journey. Here's an extract.
If God's heaven exists, it has to resemble the vision from the top of that rugged bank overlooking the Los Porteadores mountain campsite. The Estero Del Bosque River skittered down the deep ravine, leaving a white trail of crystal clear water around the boulders. Warm sunrays filtered through the trees illuminating the dust over the tents, creating horizontal golden brush strokes. A thin smoke rose from the left-over ashes inside a fire pit. We pitched the tents next to each other; rotten logs from where orange mushrooms sprouted separated us. Are they even edible? I don’t know. Nor did I desire another trip, not after the wine and tobacco experiment.
On two of the photos I added an effect to create a sense of time; not sure if it worked as desired.
I hope you've enjoyed and don't forget to participate on the contest!
