Spot the guitar - Rock n' Roll! lucky shot from a moving minibus on the highway whilst returning from the latest border run. Identified as an Australian made Chrysler Valiant 'Ranger'
The Chrysler shot as we were passing it, enabling it to be identified. Nice practical classic, looks very comfortable for cruising. Looks like a resto-mod where the patina has been left as it was found ... or vintrified* on purpose (*see main text)
The ubiquitous classic VW bus. I had to grab a shot because this thing was moving too quick for an old bus. Closer inspection (and ears) revealed Subaru engine-swap with required chassis improvements (brakes, springs etc). Looks ratty, it's a sleeper ...
Not a sleeper. Loud, and quite kit car looking. It had an auto, odd for this kind of vehicle yet not for a Thai swap. Sounded beastly, looked like a real blast. Safety secondary however ...
A small unassuming roadside bike garage on closer inspection reveals it is full of gems, and totally setup for Dirt Bikes. This little classic Yamaha dirt bike is also still raced in a vintage category.
Restorations of other classic dirt scramblers are ongoing here, it will be interesting to check back on the progress. What a great little find, out by Maprachan Lake. Dirt Trial trophies line the walls.
Won't be long before these 2 are also looking spic and span, ready to take on anything as if factory fresh.
A kid's dirt bike, it is so small and cute, here for a service.
Thai drag bike. Just 125cc, specifically made for drag racing these can add up to over $10,000 in parts alone. Every single part is changeable for racing versions, and the racers own unlimited tinkering. This racing is very popular in grass-roots Thailand
And now for something completely different! Cambodian special!
What to do if you don't have a pickup truck but you do have an old Toyota Camry? Chop it up and make it into one of course! This once 4-door exec saloon is now really a full on pickup truck.
Best of the rest
Shots that weren't enough to make their own posts, grabbed on the move, or in brief encounters. A few cars and bikes seen this week in Chonburi, Thailand.
High Season Finally Arrives In Thailand
A general update ...
It's been a quiet couple of months what with a wetter than expected monsoon season in Thailand. Oh boy did we see some rains! However, finally the temp seems to be cooling off, the sun is out, and the rains will soon be a distant memory - until next year. High season or tourist season is about to get into full swing, and millions are expected by 2023. There should be ample opportunities then for more blog posts coming up soon. On the constant lookout for car collections, museums, shows so if you happen to know of any, drop me a line in the comments. Some are predicting (hoping) for a return of 'pre-pandemic' days and for Thailand to regain its mojo as one of THE premier tourist destinations for the entire globe.
I invented a word
Vintrified - For a vehicle (or other thing) to have been made to look or left in a vintage state of dilapidation purposefully, whilst restoring, modernizing, strengthening the unseen and leaving the impression of a beaten up exterior. Alt: 'Rad Rod'
