I was inspired by thisismylife's recent blogging challenge on , ‘The 30 Pictures 30 Stories Challenge’.
They were originally inspired by rubencress ‘30 day not-so ordinary ordinary items challenge’ and I find both challenges a great way to encourage daily posting on hive.
This challenge is pretty open-ended; please feel free to follow my formula, or thisismylife’s or rubencress’ challenge structures listed in their posts linked above 🔼
The only stipulations are that you post one picture a day with a personal story attached to it for 30 days.
Write your story/anecdote to the best of your ability, and use the tag #30stories and/or the #notsoordinary tag if you’re following rubencress’ challenge. It is also advised to use the #challenge tag.
As I am a professional writer outside of hive blockchain and only dabble as an amateur photographer, I thought I’d follow thisismylife's challenge format to tell some stories and anecdotes about my strange life.
Liverpool’s known for many things, including The Beatles, LFC football club, and the other team (Everton). Many people don’t know that Liverpool is also arguably the best nightlife in the Northwest of England.
My particular perfect night out with a friend is going for a game of pool. Whether you’re a seasoned pro or just starting out, Liverpool has a range of bars and clubs with differing levels of quality of the tables.
One such place is Rileys Sports Bar in Liverpool, in Liverpool, in the city’s heart and only 2 minute’s walk from Lime Street train station, as soon as you step inside, you’re welcomed by the sound of balls hitting each other and occasionally the back of the pockets
The first thing you notice about Rileys is the sheer number of pool tables, and the level of competition is high. I played for many years in their pool league, and after about five years of playing other pubs in the amateur Wednesday invitational league, we set up our own league, simply because the standard of our players was too high for the Wednesday invitational.
This night my friend Jay (you can see in the two pictures I shared) had an axe to grind as the last time we played I beat him 8/6 after he’d beaten me in 6 successive frames claiming what he thought was an insurmountable lead, I then racked off 8 frames in a row playing two of them in what is known in pool parlance as a ‘break and dish’… basically I broke off, potted a ball from the break, then cleared all my balls and potted the black. There’s not much you can do against that type of play, and I remember vaguely feeling a little smug through my beer-fueled haze.
As the night went on, a different pattern emerged as Jay started kicking my ass, taking the score line up to 11/2. As the drinks started flowing, I upped my intensity and got some frames on the board. I managed some excellent clearances from difficult positions, but Jay was the firm winner of this round, finishing up with a winning score of 11/6.
Riley’s is an excellent destination for lovers of cue sports, with 6 full-sized snooker tables, around 20 English-style pool tables and the same amount of American-style tables.
Liverpool’s pool scene is definitely one of its hidden gems, and it’s well worth checking out various places with tables, such as Beer Engine which has a 6 am licence and serves great pizza for those hardcore 24/7 party people who fancy a few frames of pool.
So, if you’re in my neck of the woods and looking for a fun night out in Liverpool, hit me up on hive and I promise I won’t shark you 😂
Bring your A-game, and you will have a night to remember 🎱😉
