There we got the pitigüey as we call it here, but it is also known as mountain melon or scientifically as Melocactus Curvispinus, these plants occur in arid areas of xerophytic vegetation and we found it in much of the coasts of Margarita Island.
I tried to get a pitigüey that had its fruit exposed to show you, but my effort was in vain, since I did not get any and very few with flowers.
We also found the cardon, which is another species of cactus that grows here, that is why the town is named after it.
Formerly the cardon was used to fence or demarcate the land of each house in the sector and also served as security to protect crops and animal husbandry from intruders, now with the increase in population and new construction has been eliminating the cardon and we only find it in hills like this one we went.
As you can see it is an incredible landscape, since from where we were we could see part of the coast that surrounds our home and although it is not easy to get there it is worth it just for the view.
In the end we found only two cactus for my wife and of the same species, but we plan to go to another place. I will tell you about it and share the pictures with you.

Feliz día amigos de #liketu. Espero estén teniendo un gran día. Hoy quise compartir con ustedes unas fotografías que tomé hace unos días cuando con mi hijo Matías fuimos a buscar unos cactus, que mi esposa quería para un mini jardín de suculentas y cactus que está haciendo y después de tanto insistir, el día lunes después de la práctica de Matías nos dedicamos a eso.
Así que nos fuimos al pueblo del Cardón a buscar los cactus. Ya hace un par de años estuvimos por la zona viendo el paisaje con mi hermano y su familia y encontramos estás plantas, así que ya sabía dónde ubicarlas.
Allí conseguimos el pitigüey cómo le decimos por acá, pero también se conoce como melón de monte o científicamente como Melocactus Curvispinus, estás plantas se dan en zonas áridas de vegetación xerófila y la encontramos en gran parte de las costas de la isla de Margarita.
Trate de conseguir un pitigüey que tuviera su fruta expuesta para mostrarles, pero mi esfuerzo fue en vano, ya que no conseguí ninguna y muy pocas con flores.
También encontramos el cardón que es otra especie de cactus que se da por acá, por eso el pueblo lleva ese nombre.
Anteriormente se utilizaba el cardón para cercar o demarcar el terreno de cada casa del sector y también servía de seguridad para proteger los cultivos y cría de animales de los intrusos, actualmente con el aumento de la población y las nuevas construcciones se ha venido eliminando el cardón y ya solo lo encontramos en cerros como éste al que fuimos.
Como ven es un paisaje increíble, ya que desde donde estábamos se podía ver parte de la costa que rodea nuestro hogar y aunque no es fácil llegar ahí vale la pena sólo por la vista.
Al final encontramos sólo dos cactus para mí esposa y de la misma especie, pero tenemos pensado ir a otro lugar. Ya les contaré y les compartiré las fotos.
