Last friday, there is power interruption. Our students are bothered by the heat and they cannot concentrate. So we teachers, we decided to teach them outside and vacant place outside the school.
Our school are located in remote area where the number one problem is the higher number of non readers due to absenteeism and other family and culture factors.
Most of our learners are belong to the tribe of Indigenous people, or so called Aeta's in our country, Philippines.
So because reading is our number one priority in our school, we decided to teach them how to read with a twist!
We think of ways where we they can engage to it easily and to have fun at the same time. We played and sing the "boom ti yaya boom, ti yaya boom yeah, yeah! The one at the center will close their eyes and turn around and when the song stops the one that he pointed will be the one who will read and after that he or she will sing it again and point another person to read.
The children have so much fun and have learned a lot! And therefore I realized that there is no such perfect time and place for learning! We can do it anytime and anywhere, it's just how we adjust and how creative we are to make it possible.
