Success usually comes to those who are too busy to be looking for it."
Henry David Thoreau
I must admit I don't know much about Henry David Thoreau and I don't think I have read any of his work apart from some quotes or excerpts.
Still, I stumbled upon this quote the other day and it instantly drew my attention. The reason for that is partially because I've been so busy recently that I sometimes question whether it's worth it.
I made some tough decisions and sacrificed some aspects of my life to pursue my dream of financial independence and early retirement and, while the sacrifices are a temporary thing, it's still hard sometimes.
This short quote by Thoreau helped me to regain my confidence and with renewed trust in my long-term plan, I'm once again ready to tackle my goals even if it costs me some hours of sleep.
The way I read into this quote is that rather than waiting around for that "one opportunity" that will completely change this around, we need to build our own opportunities to the best of our capabilities. Success is the intersection of consistency, hard work and, of course, a little luck never hurts.
