“Absorb what is useful. Discard what is not. Add what is uniquely your own.”
Bruce Lee
Every day in our lives we are exposed to different ideas, ways of thinking and many other kinds of stimuli and sometimes that can be overwhelming. That's why we need to learn how to keep what it's useful and let go of what is not.
It can be cumbersome to try and absorb every single thing we come across and that's why I think it's extremely important to be in touch with our own values so it's easier to identify what is worth it for us to keep and what is not.
Once we learn that, we can then evolve to the next step of the journey, which is adding our own ideas and personality to things we absorb. That's how most, if not all, great ideas are born: by absorbing a large amount of references that are aligned to who we are and then adding something that's unique to ourselves.
It can be art, projects, business ideas, you name it. There is no secret to it, just be true to yourself and learn to filter the things you really care about and forget the rest.
