“Highly focused people do not leave their options open. They select their priorities and are comfortable ignoring the rest. If you commit to nothing, you’ll be distracted by everything.”
James Clear
Today I'm bringing two quotes as this quote by James Clear reminds me of a similar one that is credited to Steve Jobs:
"People think focus means saying yes to the thing you've got to focus on. But that's not what it means at all. It means saying no to the hundred other good ideas that there are. You have to pick carefully. I'm actually as proud of the things we haven't done as the things I have done. Innovation is saying no to 1,000 things."
I see a lot of wisdom in both quotes and I learned the hard way that saying no is just as important as saying yes and sometimes even more important.
Some people find it hard to do it and it can be if you don't have your priorities set right. That's why I do an early review of my personal values and life goals. That's the root of everything else, at least for me.
Having clear priorities and values allow me to understand what things will get me closer to my goals and ignore all other things regardless of how good or exciting they can be.
