“Goals are for people who care about winning once.
Systems are for people who care about winning repeatedly.”
James Clear
Nothing better to start a new week than a nice thought-provoking quote.
At first glance, this quote seemed to conflict with my own ideas around goals but, after some thought, I realized it's not.
Something that I've been saying for a while on different posts that I made on Hive is that, while setting SMART goals is very important, it means nothing without a solid execution.
It's said that if you "fail to plan, you plan to fail", which is true, but if you don't have a good system in place, it's unlikely you will be able to get anything done.
That's how I understand this quote by James Clear.
If you want to have any chances at consistently "winning", i.e reaching your goals, you need to have a good system that allows you to put in the work every day and make progress toward your goals.
Without that, you risk having to rely solely on motivation which, while powerful, is also very unpredictable.
You will have good days and bad days, you will have days when you feel like you can move a mountain and days when you can barely make it out of bed, but if you build discipline (by having the so-called "system") you will learn to get up and do the work even on your worst day.
