The wreck of the ship Evanghelia seen from the side of the road leading to the resort.
How beautiful she is from afar
The ship is in a very advanced state of disrepair, which makes visiting around it quite dangerous.
What do you think, is it damaged enough?
Here we can see how the ship in a storm broke in two
How beautiful the sea is, every year I return to it.
I mentioned in the post that there are two famous things in the resort the wreck of the Evanghelia ship and the Obelisk (which you can see behind me).
I couldn't have ended this post without leaving a picture of the sunset by the Black Sea.
If there is a greater spectacle than the sea, it is the sky; if there is a greater spectacle than the sky, it is the interior of the soul. Victor Hugo
Hello liketu community,
Today we will visit together a symbol of Costinesti, the Black Sea resort in Romania, the Costinesti Wreck has become famous in Romania, but also among foreign tourists who have arrived on our coast. Few people know the true story of the ship Evanghelia.
Today, unfortunately, the wreck is in a deplorable state. The deck has collapsed and all that remains of the nose is rust. However, there are still tourists who pay for a boat tour to admire it up close, which we did because we had the curiosity to see it up close, although this is quite dangerous because the wreck is in a very advanced state of decay and over the years many parts of the ship broke and collapsed into the sea.
It has become a true symbol of Costinesti, next to the obelisk.
The ship belonged to the fleet of the famous Greek shipowner Aristotle Socrates Onassis.
On 15 October 1968, the present wreck at Costinesti sank about 1.5 km from the northern beach of the resort. That area of the natural cliff was known as the "Gulf of the French".
Because the Evanghelia was in such good condition at the time of the grounding, the wreck has been surviving in the waves for 44 years. However, on the night of 20 to 21 December 2012, following a storm and very low temperatures on the Romanian coast, the ship's hull collapsed and the castle (cabin) collapsed inwards. The event came as no surprise, this being the usual fate of all abandoned wrecks.
One of the legends about the ship says that the incident was intentionally caused by the ship's captain. It was allegedly done at the behest of the Greek shipowner Aristotle Onassis in order to obtain compensation.
The exact causes of the sinking of the Evanghelia could never be determined, the captain and all the sailors took the secret with them to the grave, leaving us to imagine what happened there.
Thanks so much for stopping by, I hope you enjoyed today's topic, the text and pictures are my own.
