Two years ago today my grandmother was diagnosed with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) which is a preventable and treatable disease that affects men and women where the bronchi suffer damage and the quality of life changes, the main cause is smoking, and my grandmother had smoked for many years, and although she had not smoked for more than 20 years, her lungs were already affected.
Since she was diagnosed, we have taken great care of her, giving her the best care, helping her avoid being around strong odors and not getting so tired. It has not been easy as she is a very active person and sitting still and resting has not been easy.
Lately she has had very frequent coughing fits that make it very difficult for her to breathe and we have had to take her to the emergency room. That is why we have obtained an Oxygen Bottle and we have it in her room to help her when she is very agitated.
It hurts me to see her with the coughing crises caused by COPD, whenever I'm with her I give her a lot of pats on the back and above all a lot of love and attention towards her.
Tomorrow you will have an appointment with the doctor. I hope you have better news for us.
Hoy hace dos años mi abuela fue diagnosticada con enfermedad pulmonar obstructiva crónica (EPOC) la cual es una enfermedad prevenible y tratable que afecta a hombres y mujeres donde los bronquios sufren daño y la calidad de vida cambia, la principal causa es el tabaquismo, y mi abuela había fumado durante muchos años, y aunque hacía más de 20 años que no fumaba, sus pulmones ya estaban afectados.
Desde que fue diagnosticada, la hemos cuidado mucho, brindándole la mejor atención, ayudándola a evitar estar cerca de olores fuertes y no cansarse tanto. No ha sido fácil ya que ella es una persona muy activa y quedarse quieta y descansar no ha sido fácil.
Últimamente ha tenido ataques de tos muy frecuentes que le dificultan mucho la respiración y hemos tenido que llevarla a urgencias. Por eso hemos conseguido una Botella de Oxígeno y la tenemos en su habitación para ayudarla cuando ella esta muy agitada.
Me duele verla con las crisis de tos que provoca la EPOC, siempre que estoy con ella le doy muchas palmaditas en la espalda y sobre todo mucho cariño y atención hacia ella.
Mañana tendrá una cita con el médico. Espero que tenga mejores noticias para nosotros.
