Hello guys, trust everyone is doing good day, I have made lot of post here on hive about my passion and I was train in this farming life by my grandma since I visited her during one of my holidays and since then I started my own in a small way with vegetable and eventually I went into planting of yam. Its harvest time over here, am so glad to share with you my experience today harvesting from my yam farm. Honestly am so happy, the space I used in planting this yam is very small in fact it just by the side of a mango tree, the space was just thee I decided to use the space so that the tree will save the purpose for the yam to grow and climb up. This particular work I did it one of the Saturday when I was less busy, I cleared the space then till the soil then I planted just the head of a yam my mum bought from the market, and today am so surprise that the head of yam I planted has yield much yams.
Yam is a tuber crop which is a very lucrative business over here in #Nigeria, it is so because yam is one of the best food used in an occasions here, and it is commonly eaten in this part of the world either boiled, fried or roasted. Yam contain of wonderful source of fiber, potassium, and magnesium which builds the human brain, and help to improve the blood sugar level.
Harvesting this yam today really stress me, it took out energy from me digging the hole I had to call for help from my friend who is a guy yet we still had to cut the yam so we can remove it,. Though it was stressful but the joy in my heart it’s unexplainable, how the yam grew this successful and with great yield is amazing. After harvesting I had to cut out some part for family consumption, life of a farmer this is where I find satisfaction has a farmer it during the harvest season because all my effort will become result. Being a farmer there lot of things you need to consider and be careful of, from the type of soil, to the time of suitable for planting, application of manure, weeding when necessary etc. and most especially you must have the mindset for agriculture
