So yesterday, I commented on and reblogged a garden post by
This morning I am remedying that.
These are my cucumber vines from the front (or back depending on how you look at it) This is from inside the garden
This is the other side (street side) of the fence.
I've only gotten a few cukes so far this year, for which I am disappointed. I swear last year at this time (when they were just planted in the dirt, no enclosure) I got more by this time
Next to that is a tomato (with some parsley hidden down there, I didn't plan this very well)
There are about 5 good size green tomatoes hidden under all that foliage.
On the left (blooming) is Bee Balm, it seems to get as many butterflies as bees though.
Next to that are 2 Romaine Lettuce plants, a couple of stunted Okra (I just haven't had good luck so far with Okra this year) and a Marigold, that I didn't deadhead properly
To the left of the bee balm, there is a Squash plant that I moved; it was getting seriously overcrowded (you'll see in a minute) and I knew it would go to waste, so I took a chance and transplanted it. SURPRISE! It is doing well. Behind it another Okra plant, to the left Marigold, bell pepper and some Radish (I scattered them all over the place mainly for the greens)
In the BACK section more bell peppers and Cherry Tomatoes in the corner, more radishes.
Hard to tell, but there is Purple Sage in the corner, next to a Banana pepper plant
A few Radishes are actually producing roots, yum!
Everything so far has been in the raised beds and tires, same location as where I had last years garden "free range"
↑This year I created a totally new plot, which would get far more sunlight during the course of the day (this image is several months old)↑
↑This is one end of that bed on May 17th↑
From here out were taken today
It seems to have taken forever, but one of the two poblanos in that bed has begun to bare fruit
I had a problem with "Blossom End Rot" in the beginning, but after adding Calcium Nitrate, I have squash out the yang.
I've used a lot of the blossoms in my salads too
I added Butternut Squash as an afterthought. I'm hoping they will run along the fence they are planted next to, and up towards the bed with the other squash. My hoses won't reach these things, so I have to carry water over to them
Running along side the house, I made more mistakes. The tomatoes I planted over here do not get NEARLY enough full sun during the day, and I am considering trying to move them, but they are SO BIG to try and move.
Otherwise, Basil (which I have in both back beds as well. I eat Basil in any and every tomato dish I cook, and now in my salads as well) Oregano, in the back is Rosemary that isn't getting enough sun, cilantro and Lemon Thyme
Here is a "Black Cherry" tomato plant that oddly, right next to a large tomato that isn't producing, the cherry mater is producing
It's hard to tell with those things when they are ripe ha ha
Out in front of the house I have flowers, this first thing was a pleasant surprise.
Last year, a bunch of things sprouted in a corner next to the front steps, I preserved and babied them, so that this year I took them up and put them in a pot, not knowing what they were which turned out to be Calla Lily
In the spot where they were last year I put a pink Hydrangea, which I neglected deadheading until this morning
All this time, to water things out front, I've had to drag a 100 ft hose around.
I still have to do that for things farther out, but I just Sunday installed a "Mister" sprinkling system in that front bed
It wasn't as daunting a task as I had feared it would be.
So here is my
"garden update for June 7"
