This morning's meager harvest.
I went ahead and cut the whole top of the Romaine lettuce, I hope it will branch out again, but if not, oh well.
Got my first banana pepper, one Poblano, one cuke and a few squash fingerlings
There are MANY more squash, I just prefer them to be smaller and less "Seedy"
Cherry tomatoes are loaded, but not ripening... yet?
This big 'mater got blowed over in the big storm last week, but doesn't seem to have sustained any trauma, AND I got the Bt so have I think conquered the tomato Hornworm caterpillar problem
( this is a blurry poor quality image from a few days ago)
Normally a bright green like the leaves and stems it feeds on, this one is brown and did not move when I "teched" it.
But again, those big babies are not blushing yet, and I wonder why?
We didn't QUITE make it to the projected 100° REAL TEMP (not heat index) yesterday, but it was above 95° most of the day, iow chillens, hit were hot!
I can't figure out these cucumbers. Last year the vines were planted IN THE GROUND (amended and fertilized of course) and I had to chase the vines, putting things up for them to grow on.
↓(Opposite side of the fence looking back at the garden↓)
They just are NOT "making" like they did last year, the fruit are irregular and not as large, and friends, I AM watering everything
I got this off the underside of a cucumber leaf. Not to worry, it is a Cicada husk, shed so the underground stage could morph into the reproductive stage
My butternut squash are looking good, but seem to be suffering from "Blossom End Rot" like the other squash did, and I'm giving them the Calcium Nitrate, still figuring what that is all about.
Lotsa poblano developing on both ends of the squash bed, moreso on the south end though
With the big picture in between
I planted these in this location, with the thought that these would be VINES that ran, hoping that, like the cukes, I could train them up onto the fence.
Not happening.
I've been experimenting with moving the vines up for more Air and Sunlight (the bed is in FULL SUN from about 10 am-5 pm)
Over on the side of the house
The big tomatoes have yet to set fruit, but the "Black Cherry" tomatoes have, just not very prolific.
I made a mistake putting these two big maters over here, at least in the corner against the wall.
I now have more hose connections so I can get more water to this bed
The timer I installed on the sprinklers I installed on the front bed are a life saver, but I still have to drag a hose out to the three flower plantings near the street
Oh! Did I mention that it is 🔥hot as hell?🔥
And don't get in a hurry neither!
