They do a commendable job, because every day they go to work they run the risk of getting covid-19, yet fear does not paralyze them. They know we need them, and when they see how much they can help, they go forward with confidence and optimism. Alex is working directly in the covid-19 area, but it wasn't always like this. I'll tell you how he got to the most dangerous area in healthcare.
Alex is a surgeon and is passionate about his career. He loves being in the emergency area, because there you learn to work under pressure, he says. He also loves suturing, that is his specialty and he wants to continue studying to be able to perform major surgeries. When it's his turn to do normal consultations, he doesn't feel much pleasure, because he's all about emergencies. However, when it is his turn to attend consultations, he does it with joy to do his job as it should be and to stick to the schedule assigned to him at the hospital.
Al ir colapsando los sitios designados para el área covid-19 por el incremento de los casos, solicitaron médicos para colaborar y así prestar su ayuda ante tal situación. Alex no lo pensó, de inmediato se ofreció para trabajar en dicha área. Tanto a mí como a sus familiares no nos pareció su decisión, porque nos daba miedo que pudiera llegarse a contagiar, tal como le había ocurrido a otros médicos. No obstante, Alex lleva en la sangre la disposición de ayudar donde se precise, así que hizo caso omiso a familiares y amigos y se fue a trabajar en el peligroso foco del área covid-19. Demostrando valentía, abnegación y un absoluto compromiso con su trabajo.
As the sites designated for the covid-19 area collapsed due to the increase in the number of cases, doctors were asked to collaborate and help in this situation. Alex did not think twice, he immediately volunteered to work in that area. Both myself and his family did not like his decision, because we were afraid that he could become infected, as had happened to other doctors. However, Alex's willingness to help where needed is in his blood, so he ignored family and friends and went to work in the dangerous outbreak area of covid-19. He showed courage, selflessness and absolute commitment to his work.
Alex has been working hard for more than six months and says he has learned a great deal from being directly involved with infected patients. He has also seen many of his patients die, and this undoubtedly marks any human being. Our healthcare professionals deserve all our respect, because their emotions are affected in a negative way by everything they have to see on a daily basis. Although it could be said that they are used to seeing sick people, let's remember that the pandemic has claimed thousands of lives every day and seeing this up close stirs feelings and affects anyone.
Every day for our health professionals is an opportunity to become infected, but also to save lives. Therefore we should be grateful to have altruistic physicians, willing to sacrifice themselves, in order to make the pandemic more bearable. If all physicians stayed at home out of fear, we would be in a worse scenario, so let us appreciate what our health professionals do. It is with great hope that we await the day when the pandemic disappears. In the meantime, let us collaborate with the heroes of this era by striving to take all preventive measures.
