The other day, someone said to me "Can I have the address to your Behance?"
My... what?
Obviously, that was the first time I'd ever heard of the Behance platform, so I had to ask what it was about.
Evidently, it's a kind of online "calling card" and aggregator site for artists and creatives; yet another social media venue where you can put "links to all your stuff" in one convenient place.
Acting on a momentary sense of FOMO, I promptly visited the Behance web site when I got home, and created a somewhat basic profile for Alchemy Stones
Afterwards, I found myself pondering the somewhat elementary question of "What GOOD will this actually do me?"
The market for art is generally a tough "sell" in which there are far more sellers than there are buyers. Whereas sites like Behance are certainly very pretty and look like they make sense — at least on the surface of things — do they actually help anyone sell more art?
In short: "I now have a page on Behance! So what?"
Naturally, I'm a new user, so the jury is going to be out on that one, for a while.
One More Thing to Maintain?
As a creative and artist, the thing I often struggle the most with is not only actual marketing and publicity, but also the time it takes to maintain a growing host of promotional venues.
I find that I spend less and less time creating art and more and more time marketing art.
Eventually, it feels like there has to be a point of "maximum saturation" at which it seems like we are just "spinning our wheels" in an effort to be seen and heard, but without it really having much beneficial impact on our creative endeavors.
I suppose that is the "Lazy Artist's Dream:" to just be able to make it, and leave it, and the rest takes care of itself.
Final (I Hope!) Amazon Handmade Update...
Meanwhile, the good news is that after the weeks and weeks of dealing with re-instatement hassles with Amazon Handmade, all seems to be working again!
Not only that, but the $36.36 I earned from sales that happened more than a month ago finally showed up in my bank account, today.
Don't get me wrong, I was glad to see it, but sometimes I have to wonder whether that whole show is even worthwhile dealing with. Still, I'd like to think that $35 here, and $35 there eventually adds up to something!
