The “Budget” Bed Scam

Esto ya lleva un tiempo conmigo, pero con tantos problemas no he podido comprarme una cama decente, al menos el colchón logre cambiarlo después de quedarme casi parapléjica durmiendo en él. Hace dos años compre una cama en el centro de caracas, con un buen precio, confiando en que estaba haciendo la mejor compra de mi vida, nuestra cama ya estaba vieja y el colchón todo feo, decidimos deshacernos de el después de comprar esta nueva cama pero no sabíamos el gran error que cometimos.

This has been going on for a while now, but with so many problems, I haven't been able to buy a decent bed—at least I managed to replace the mattress after it left me nearly paralyzed from sleeping on it. Two years ago, I bought a bed in downtown Caracas at a good price, confident that I was making the best purchase of my life. Our old bed was worn out and the mattress was in terrible shape, so we decided to get rid of it after buying this new bed—but we had no idea what a huge mistake we were making.

Para comenzar la cama no encaja bien y la tela es tan horrible que la cama se rueda involuntariamente, esta cama traía unas patas que nunca le pudimos poner y lo peor de todo es que cuando la abrimos en casa olía HORRIBLE, UN OLOR A HUMEDAD QUE CADA VEZ SE HACIA MAS FUERTE. Por tonta quise ser positiva y limpie la cama para quitarle el olor, aunque se disfrazo un poco y con el tiempo finalmente se quitó. Y ni hablar del colchón que literalmente se sentía como dormir en el piso, super duro… pero con el paso del tiempo se fue formando un hueco donde yo dormía hasta que finalmente el colchon se empezó a desinflar y a descoser.

To start with, the bed doesn't fit properly, and the fabric is so awful that the bed keeps sliding around on its own. This bed came with legs that we could never attach, and worst of all, when we opened it at home, it smelled HORRIBLE—a musty smell that just kept getting stronger. Like an idiot, I tried to be positive and cleaned the bed to get rid of the smell, though it just masked it a bit and eventually went away on its own. And don’t even get me started on the mattress—it literally felt like sleeping on the floor, super hard… but over time, a dent formed where I slept until the mattress finally started to deflate and come apart at the seams.

Después de mucho tiempo pude cambiar el colchón y dejar de sufrir por eso pero vivir en este país es muy costoso y aun no he podido comprar la cama, asi que lastimosamente continuo con esa cama horrible que por cierto se nota que está hecha con cartón y madera de mala calidad, Me di cuenta que se han viralizado muchos videos de personas que tambien cayeron en esa estafa y ellos abren los colchones y las camas y por dentro es puro cartón sucio, y estoy segura que el mío es igual, no lo he abierto pero puedo sentirlo…

After a long time, I was finally able to replace the mattress and stop suffering because of it, but living in this country is very expensive, and I still haven't been able to buy a bed, so unfortunately I’m still stuck with that horrible bed, which, by the way, clearly looks like it’s made of cardboard and low-quality wood. I’ve noticed that a lot of videos have gone viral of people who also fell for that scam—they open up the mattresses and beds, and inside it’s just dirty cardboard—and I’m sure mine is the same. I haven’t opened it, but I can feel it…

Esta cama me llena de polvo la habitación, la tela por dentro esta completamente llena de polvo es una tela horrible que todo se pega… Cada vez que la limpio sale mucho polvo volando y me lo termino tragando, es horribleeeeeee. Además se rompe fácilmente, hoy limpie y me dio mucha rabia recordar que cada vez que limpio el cuarto sufro demasiado.

This bed fills my room with dust; the fabric inside is completely covered in dust—it’s a horrible fabric that everything sticks to… Every time I clean it, a ton of dust flies around and I end up breathing it in—it’s sooooooo awful. Plus, it breaks easily. I cleaned it today, and it really annoyed me to realize that every time I clean my room, I suffer so much.

La lección es que nunca compres algo barato por que se ve demasiado bueno, siempre es mejor irse por lo que es un poco mas costoso pero de mejor calidad y siempre ir a tiendas confiables,.

The lesson is: never buy something cheap just because it looks too good to be true; it’s always better to go for something that’s a little more expensive but of better quality, and always shop at reliable stores.
