This year chess summoned me again, this time I took it up again in a therapeutic way to relieve a little stress and I started playing online after a long time, and since then a new season of more or less everyday games began.
On the recommendation of a friend I entered the amazing online site called Lichess. It is a free and open source powerful web portal where more than 50,000 simultaneous games can happen at any time, and although I don't know the exact figures, it is probably the largest chess community in the world at the moment, it can be played in different modes and it has a ranking system that allows quick and random matches, tournaments, drills, lessons, among other wonderful things, making it ideal for professional players and amateurs like me.
I knew there was a community of chess players on Hive (The Chess Community), but honestly not very aware of how it was organized since I hadn't been able to participate, so this time being encouraged, I quickly searched and found a post about their regular ongoing tournament calls and then decided join me to play in the last rounds of the Hivechess Tournament S10 that was ongoing at that time
I can say that the experience was very rewarding from the beginning with the Hivechess community, grouped in The Blockchain Chess Team, where I was kindly received and invited to participate in all the team's activities in Lichess, including the weekly Hivechess rounds.
Hivechess is a tournament that I consider to be of a very high level, evident by the quality and experience of the players that make it up, the average score was above 1800! This is well above my personal average of just 1100, so I can tell that the competition was well above the range, predicting the bottom places for me because of my low average, however knowing it was going to be a tough challenge , I was happy to accept for the pleasure of sharing the board with very good chess players, including some professionals with whom I had the honor of facing.
I played in 4 rounds of the tournament and definitely put my best into every game, had some upset wins over higher ranked players and had other bitter losses, the ones I hate the most are the ones beaten by the clock being sometimes in advantage position.
The big news for me was that at the end of the tournament I received a surprising honorable mention for having the highest performance in relation to my own rating, where my participation was more than 400 points above my usual ranking, and this mention also included a tokenized reward in 10 Hive!!
This took me really clueless because I had no idea that I even had the possibility of getting a mention and much less with a reward in crypto, it should be noted that it is the first time that I earn money formally through a sport, so without doubt this is something that I will always remember with a smile.

Este año el ajedrez me volvió a convocar, esta vez lo retomé de manera terapéutica para aliviar un poco el stress y comencé a jugar online después de mucho tiempo, y desde entonces comenzó una nueva temporada de juegos más o menos cotidianos.
Por recomendación de un amigo entré en el increíble sitio online llamado Lichess. Es un potente portal web gratuito y de código abierto donde pueden ocurrir más de 50.000 partidas simultáneas en cualquier momento, y aunque no conozco las cifras exactas, probablemente sea la comunidad de ajedrez más grande del mundo en este momento, se puede jugar en distintos modos y tiene un sistema de ranking que permite emparejamientos rápidos y aleatorios, torneos, ejercicios, lecciones, entre otras cosas maravillosas, lo que lo hace ideal para jugadores profesionales y aficionados como yo.
Sabía que había una comunidad de ajedrecistas en Hive, pero sinceramente no muy enterado de cómo estaba organizada ya que no había podido participar, así que esta vez estando animado, busqué y encontré rápidamente un post sobre sus habituales convocatorias a torneos en curso y entonces decidí incorporarme para jugar en las últimas rondas del Hivechess Tournament S10 que se encontraba en curso para ese momento
Puedo decir que la experiencia fue bien gratificante desde el principio con la comunidad de ajedrecista de Hive, agrupados en The Blockchain Chess Team, donde fui amablemente recibido y convidado a participar en todas las actividades del equipo en Lichess, entre ellas las rondas semanales del Hivechess.
El Hivechess es un torneo que considero de muy alto nivel, evidente por la calidad y experiencia de los jugadores que lo conforman, la puntuación promedio fue por encima de los 1800! Esto es muy por encima de mi promedio personal de tan solo 1100, así que puedo decir que la competencia estaba muy por encima de rango, vaticinando los últimos lugares para mí por mi bajo promedio, sin embargo, sabiendo que iba a ser un reto difícil, estaba a gusto de aceptar por el placer de compartir el tablero con muy buenos ajedrecistas, incluyendo algunos profesionales con los que tuve el honor de enfrentarme.
Jugué en 4 rondas del torneo y sin duda puse lo mejor de mi en cada partida, logré algunas victorias sorpresivas a jugadores mejor rankeados y tuve otras amargas derrotas, las que más odio son las vencidas por el reloj estando algunas veces en posición de ventaja.
La gran novedad para mi fue que al finalizar el torneo recibí una sorpresiva mención honorífica por tener el mejor desempeño en relación con mi ranking, donde mi participación fue de más de 300 puntos por sobre mi ranking habitual, y esta mención además incluía recompensa tokenizada en 10 Hive.
Esto me tomó realmente despistado porque no tenía idea, siquiera de que tenía la posibilidad de obtener una mención y mucho menos con recompensa en crypto, cabe destacar que es la primera vez que gano dinero de manera formal a través de un deporte, así que sin duda esto es algo que voy a recordar siempre con una sonrisa.
