On the outskirts of the city of Cuzco is one of the most important archaeological complexes of the Inca culture, a few minutes from the center of the city. The fortress and sacred site of Sacsayhuaman, perhaps is one of the architectural works of the legacy of the most monumental Inca civilization.
It is a truly impressive site, it also has a privileged panoramic view of the entire Cuzco valley and its surrounding mountains.
Its easy access and proximity to the city, made it one of my favorite places to visit, and learn about the legacy of the Inca culture and but also to take a relaxing walk.
The first thing you see when you arrive, are the giant stones of more than 9 meters high, perfectly carved that make up walls so well made that they remain standing today after more than 500 years of construction, practically intact.
Everything indicates that it was a great ceremonial center, with various purposes, as the great buildings of the Inca culture were commonly configured.
Even today it is considered by many as a sacred place, it is one of the places where Inti Raymi is still celebrated on the winter solstice in the southern cone, every June 24.
There is a lot of tourist traffic and there is a delimited area for guided tours, which can be accessed by buying a ticket and another free access area, where you can visit daily and is perfect for taking a walk through the surrounding forests.

En las afueras de la ciudad de Cuzco se encuentra uno de los mas importantes complejos arqueológicos de la cultura inca, a pocos minutos del centro de la ciudad. La fortaleza y sitio sagrado de Sacsayhuaman, quizás es una de las obras arquitectónicas del legado de la civilización Inca más monumental.
Es un sitio realmente impresionante, además cuenta con una vista panorámica privilegiada de todo el valle de Cuzco y sus montañas circundantes.
Su fácil acceso y cercanía con la ciudad, lo hicieron uno de mis sitios predilectos para visitar, y conocer de cerca el legado de la cultura inca y pero también para dar una caminata relajante.
Lo primero que ves al llegar, son las gigantes piedras de más de 9 metros de altura, perfectamente talladas que conforman muros tan bien realizados que se mantienen hoy en pie después de más de 500 años de construcción, prácticamente intactos.
Todo indica que era un gran centro ceremonial, con varios propósitos, como comúnmente se configuraban las grandes edificaciones de la cultura Inca.
Aún hoy en día es considerado por muchos como un lugar sagrado, es uno de los lugares donde aún se celebra el Inti Raymi en el solsticio de invierno en el cono sur, todos los 24 de junio.
Hay mucho tráfico turístico y hay un área delimitada para las visitas guiadas, el cual se tiene acceso comprando un ticket y otra área de libre acceso, donde se puede visitar a diario y es perfecto para dar un paseo entre los bosques alrededor.
